Allen L. Atwood The Rutland Herald <www.rutlandherald.com> 19 May 2009 LEICESTER - Allen Leonard Atwood, 76, died May 17, 2009, at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Born in Leicester on Dec. 29, 1932, he was the son of the late Harold E. and Blanche (McDonald) Atwood. Mr. Atwood was employed at Vermont Marble Co. in Proctor, Howe Scale Co., Rutland, White Pigment, Pittsford and Savage Arms in Massachusetts prior to starting Atwood Trucking Rubbish Removal business. He retired after 13 years of business due to muscular dystrophy. He enjoyed his family and close friends and enjoyed hunting, fishing and people watching. Survivors include his wife, Joan Ann (Corey) Atwood, whom he married Feb. 6, 1954; five children, Allen Atwood, Jr. of Sudbury, Randall Atwood of Addison, Susan Barrows of Morrisville, Gary Atwood of Hydeville, and Joallen Vincent of Cornwall; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; six sisters, Wilma Croumey of Glens Falls, N.Y., Evelyn Lake of Waltham, Glenna Buzzell of Pittsford, Helen Hale of South Londonerry, Betty Osmer of Bridgewater Corners, and Doris Aldrich of Caroleen, S.C.; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers and sister, Pauline Godett, Theron Atwood and Harley Atwood. There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at Forest Dale Cemetery with the Rev. John McDonald, pastor, Forest Dale Wesleyan Church, officiating.
