Rutland Herald <www.rutlandherald.com> 17 Jan 2009 John N. Atwood MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - John N. Atwood, 86, died Dec. 22, 2008. He was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Sudbury, Vt., the son of Charles and Flora (Dimick) Atwood. He graduated from Brandon High School in 1939, and attended Gordon College in Boston. While attending college, Mr. Atwood joined the U.S. Navy. He was trained as a pharmacist's mate and participated in the invasion of Norman-dy on D-Day. Following his discharge from the Navy in 1945, he earned a degree in accounting from Bentley School of Accounting and Finance, and made his career as an accountant. In February 1945, he married Catherine Litfin, who was also in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his sister, Shirley (Atwood) Martin of Brandon, Vt.; a granddaughter who was also his caretaker, Melissa Atwood of Eagan Park, Minn.; a daughter, Deborah; and two sons, Bradley and Joseph; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife; by his sisters, Norma, Ruth, Madge, and Marion; and by a brother, Royal. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
