Winston-Salem Journal <[1]www.journalnow.com> 25 December 2008 WINSTON-SALEM - Mrs. Estelle Burcham Atwood, 86, passed away at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home on Wednesday, December 24, 2008. She was born on July 29, 1922 in Forsyth County to the late Dixie Levi and Minnie Ida Barnes Burcham. She was of Baptist faith. Estelle worked as a machine instructor at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 38 years until retirement in 1980. She enjoyed going to the Y.M.C.A. and having the company of friends and family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atwood was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert, William, Roy and Walter Burcham; and sisters, Carrie Plunkett, Mary Burcham and Clara Reid. Surviving Estelle are her husband of 63 years, Sidney E. Atwood of the home; son, Dennis Atwood and wife, Barbara; daughter, Darlene Crews, all of Winston- Salem; step-daughter, Marjorie Toma and husband, Tom; grandson, Derek Crews; and nieces, Ann Beeson and Carol Rose. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Vogler and Sons Funeral Home on Reynolda Road. Interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, December 26, at the funeral home. The Atwood family would like to send special thanks to Oak Forest Nursing Home and Rehab Center for their wonderful care given to Estelle during her time there. They would also like to give appreciation to Hospice and Palliative Care of Winston-Salem for the great support they have provided to their loved one and the family.
