Atwood, Jr., 65, Family Man, Paving Contractor & Hunting Enthusiast Robert (Bob) C. Atwood, Jr. was an extremely active and involved individual. He was first and foremost a husband of thirty-one years to his wife, Mary. He adored his two children, Deanna Cahill of Livingston, Montana and Wesley Atwood who is currently a student at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA. Bob, age 65, of Snellville, GA entered into rest on January 25, 2009 after a gallant battle with lung cancer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Mary Cawthon Atwood; Daughter and Son-in-law, Deanna and Jeff Cahill of Livingston, MT; Son, Wesley Allen Atwood of Snellville, GA; Two brothers, Lou and Anne Atwood of Hilton Head, SC, Dana Atwood of Decatur, GA; Brother-in-law, William and Donna Cawthon of Hilton Head, SC; Two nieces, Ashley and Taylor Bickerstaff of Bozeman, MT, Brenna and Jason White of Hilton Head, SC; Two nephews, Todd and Jenny Cawthon, Jon Cawthon all of Hilton Head, SC; and A Host of Friends. Bob Atwood was born in Atlanta, GA on July 15, 1943 to Helen Winterberger Atwood and Robert C. Atwood, Sr. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving two tours in Vietnam involved in Intelligence. He was a founder, along with his partner Jim Dykes, in starting Dykes Paving and Construction Co. over forty years ago. Nothing was ever too hard of a challenge and if it seemed to be then it was just right for Bob. Stories were always bountiful and laughs were endless. Bob always attracted people with his warm and inviting personality and usually formed lasting friendships within minutes of meeting. His passion for hunting took him all over the United States and into Canada. Exactly four months prior to his passing, Bob was riding out of the back country of Montana with his first elk taken with bow and arrow. Taxidermists made enough from Bob's trophies to send them into early retirement. Bob's career in asphalt paving began forty years ago with Dykes Paving and Construction Company. As Executive Vice President, Bob was instrumental in the growth and success of this company. Hi! s leadership helped to develop Dykes Paving into one of the largest, most recognized commercial paving contractors in Georgia. Over the past forty years, Bob has paved everything from driveways to parking lots at Turner Stadium. During this time, he has developed strong relationships with many general contractors, owners and property managers in the greater Atlanta Market. He also mentored many young contractors and helped them become a viable and successful addition to the industry. In addition to his achievements in business, Bob devoted many of his years to being involved with sponsoring his local chapter of Ducks Unlimited. Conservation ideas that were instilled upon him during his time with Ducks Unlimited spurred him to create his very own duck preserve in North Georgia. His love for this prompted the building of a second home for his family and hunting companions to share. Many fond memories will live on through this place with future hunting seasons to come. Lists were an integral part of Bob's day-to-day achievements and anyone that knew him would agree that his "to-do list" in life was more than complete before he passed. He never took on a task without putting two-hundred percent into it, but when it was accomplished he knew how to enjoy the rewards to the fullest. Whether it was enjoying a good meal, reading a great novel or taking an afternoon off to be in the woods, Bob did it all with a hard day's work behind it. Bob will be missed my many! friends and family. But, he would want everyone to remember him with fond memories and a smile.
