*The Colorado Springs Gazette <www.gazette.com> 25 May 2010 Helen Marietta Crawford Atwood, age 91, passed away at Saint Francis Nursing Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Saturday, May 22, 2010. She died peacefully, surrounded by her surviving children, Tony and Rosemarie, her Granddaughter Jenna and Grandson in Law, Daniel. She was born to Roy and Bessie Crawford, May 8, 1919 in Springfield, Illinois. She was the third of five children who have preceded her in death. She raised her children in California, then lived with her sister Dolly in Illinois and then in 1995 moved to Colorado with Granddaughter Jenna and her family. Later she lived the last year of her life at Saint Francis where she tried to care for everyone. Before going to St. Francis, she spent a lot of time with her friends at the Fountain Valley Senior Center Helen loved reading, helping others, Elvis Presley, and spending time with her Great Grandchildren. Helen was a great woman who always had a sparkle in her eyes and touched the hearts of everyone she met. Her family and friends feel blessed for having such an angel in their lives. She is survived by her children Tony & Rosemarie, her Grandchildren Jenna & Kathy, her 8 Great Grandchildren, and other family and friends who loved her deeply. Abiding by her request for no services the family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Helen's Memory to Mount Saint Francis Nursing Center on 7550 Assissi Heights, Colorado Springs, Colorado or the Fountain Valley Senior Center 5745 Southmoor Drive, Fountain, Co.
