It was in a column that a guy named Jim Burns used to do and he would tell what was happening in town ten years earlier, 25 years earlier, etc. So that's how I knew it was 1879. If you call the Rockland Historical Society (207-594-6193), just ask if someone could look this up in the "Candage Records" books and give you the date of the paper. Or if you had a lot of people in this area in the earlier 1800s, Picton Press in Rockland sells a CD of all the Candage records. M/M Candage went back through all the old Rockland newspapers (going back to 1840's) and listed every birth, marriage and death that was included in those papers.
