> [email protected] asked: > Anyone have info on this line?: > PHILO ATWOOD > John and Martha's oldest child was born May 19, 1782, in Bethlehem, > Litchfield, Connecticut. - -------------------------------- This is what I have collected from things I have seen on the list. I am sorry, but I don't have sources noted very consistently, but I did note under Oliver: "contact Mary Fournier Atwood [email protected]" and with Elijah and Anna Jocelyn I had as source of the numbered comments "Ref: EARLY PURITAN SETTLERS OF CONNECTICUT (A Catalogue of the Names of the) by Royal R. Hinman; Press of Case, Tiffany and Company. 1852. pp. 74-5, 77-81 [from Atwood Ancestors Vol 3] also lists as Elijah's child: 4 Molly m Elijah Weller Children: Huldah Weller, Benjamin Weller, Orry Weller m Cady Benjamin Weller enlisted into the U.S. Army." ----- I also have a note that there was some confusion about whether Elijah was son of this or another Jonathan, but I suspect Brad's database will be able to clear things up Ruth Atwood [email protected] ===== 5i Thomas Atwood b 1610 Broomfield, Essex, England d 1682 Wethersfield, Hartford, CT m abt 1667 to Abigail Unknown b 1650 Wethersfield, Hartford, CT 1713 6iii Jonathan (Dr) Atwood b 8 Jun 1675 d 1 Jan 1733 or 11 Feb 1733 m 5 Nov 1701 to Sarah Terrill dau. of Roger Terrill and Sarah Scott 7i Nathan Atwood b: 6-Sep-1702 Woodbury, CT d: Abt. 1726 Woodbury, CT 8i Elijah Atwood b 11 Apr 1724 d 29 Nov 1804 Woodbury, CT m Anna Jocelyn b 29 Jun 1729 New Haven, CT d 1814 9vi Elijah Atwood b 20 Jan 1765 m Abigail Atwood (see Jonathan 7iv, David 8v) b Woodbury, CT d 29 Jan 1834 10i Washington H. m Maria Stone 10ii Harriet b abt 1797 m Philo Atwood (see Oliver 7v, John 8v) Philo and Harriet's probable children: 11i Possibly, Abigail born April 4, 1816, she married July 6, 1847, John Tyler 11ii Minerva married- had issue- Ellen md. Minerva Atwood #454 ELIJAH ATWOOD Elijah and Annah's son Elijah was born March 15, 1765. He was nicknamed "Hardhead." #227 HARRIET ATWOOD Elijah and Abigail's daughter Harriet was born around 1797. She married Philo Atwood. #226 PHILO ATWOOD John and Martha's oldest child was born in 1782. He married first Ms. Fairchild, and secondly by 1816 (per deed) Harriet Atwood (see Atwood family). According to the 1840 census of Woodbury, Litchfield, Connecticut he was 50 to 60 years-old, his wife was 40-50, they had eleven children, including a female, Harriet's (#113) age. He is not listed in the 1850 census. Harriet supposedly died when Harriet Maria was young, which if she died between 1840 and 1850, Harriet Maria would have been between 10 and 20. Harriet Atwood Atwood's Grandfather David Atwood left his daughter Abigail's share of his estate to her heirs (one-fifth each). In 1816 Philo and Harriet Atwood deeded the rights to the property that was left to her Grandmother Martha Atwood to Harriet's Uncle Elijah Dailey. #113 HARRIET MARIA ATWOOD Philip and Harriet's daughter Harriet was born in Woodbury, Litchfield Co., Connecticut on July 28, 1830. Supposedly her Atwood family lost their land in Connecticut due to back taxes. Her mother died young so her sister Minerva raised her. I suspect she traveled to Lima, Washtenaw Co., Michigan with her sister and other Atwood cousins, as Chauncey Atwood (a second cousin) witnessed her marriage (as did Samuel and Annor Webster). She married Joseph Needham (see Needham family). There is also speculation that the family lived near Concord, Merrimack Co., New Hampshire. Harriet's death certificate said her father's name was Philip, but maybe she was the daughter of Philo and Harriet Atwood (226/227). The pedigree in Keith Harvey's baby book that would have been written around 1955 shows her father as Lord Johnathan Atwood of London, England, I think a few generations must have been skipped for this to be possibly the case.
