He left the sea before his marriage, became a merchant, built vessels, made bricks and owned a general store. He was a prosperous, educated and capable man. He died insane, Apr. 7, 1844, aet. 71, and is buried in Hampden, Maine, with his wife, Anna (Cole) Atwood, who d. Sept. 28, 1848, aet. 78." "The facts of his marriage and births of children are given, from the family record, on the accompanying sheet. The following facts are from various sources." "The first three children died infants; not known where they were born or buried, but probably in Frankfort." "The only descendants of Stevens Atwood who bear the name today are those tracing to his ninth child, Stevens who is know to have had two sons." -- Also included in the bible is a record dated 1803, a copy of a record made by John SEARS, tracing the line of the mother of Stevens Atwood of Frankfort (Winterport ME), Rhoda Sears. I am still looking for a trace of a James Atwood, born in boston 6/3/1673. From: Charles W. Atwood, 27400 Chardon Road, #526, Willoughby Hills, OH 44092 [He also refers to a Pairpoint plate from the Atwood House, a museum on Cape Cod, that represents one branch of the family. /rea] -------- "What's in Your Name" by Charles Guarino and Albert Seddon - submitted by Myrna Atwood This article repeats information previously published about the origin of the name Atwood which I will not bother transcribing unless someone requests it. But there was a comment about a Thomas Atwood who "had the rare distinction of being a pupil of Mozart in 1785. This man was the organist in Saint Paul's Cathedral in London until his death in 1796. He composed two coronation anthems for the Royal Court of England." ----------end of Vol XIII 1c continued at 1d
