Brad, I lived in Atwood, Tennessee some years ago and still live near there. I was quite interested in the origin of the name even then because my surname is Atwood. All I could ever find out about the history of Atwood is that it was given its moniker by the railroaders who stopped there to pick up pulpwood. Or "at wood". Much the same as the origin of the Atwood name in England. I know that my line of Atwoods came through this part of Tennessee. Several settled in Paris, Tennessee. It is possible that the town took its name from the Atwoods, but to date all I can find is the account of a pulp wood pick up point for the railroad. I hope we here from some others about towns named Atwood. Thanks Brad. This is a great webring. Stephen R.
