Early Times in Monroe County NY" by Margaret Schmitt MacNamb et al Thomas Atwood Little has been ascertained about the Atwood families. Thomas and Samuel Atwood, yeaomen of Northfield, both bought land in the Lovett's Corners area of Penfield on July 1, 1805. They were apparently about the same age. Samuel originally of Litchfield, Connecticut, and his wife Jenny, left Penfield for Pittsford and later Brighton, but so fas as can be determined, Thomas and his wife Elizabeth stayed in Penfield. At least they were there in 1824, when the sold land to Cornelius Conant of Perinton. In the 1810 census their household consisted of Thomas and Elizabeth. Thomas, age 75, was a widower living with William and Rebecca Gors, as a laborer, when the 1855 census was taken. ========================== State of Georgia, Richmond County This day John Atwood came before us, two of the Justices of the peace for said County, And made oath that he was duly enlisted to Eighteen months by Major Dunahoo for Captain Moore's Company of Continental troops belonging to the State of North Carolina and commanded by Colonal Archibald Lyttle for which services he received a discharge at the Quarter house near Charleston from said Captain Moore.
