Atwood, born June 16, 1863, in Sacramento. Lewis Napoleon settled and married in Tulare County, California, but was not married until 1887. He raised his family in Lemon Cove, Tulare County, and passed away in Bakersfield in 1934. His brother Frank lived for a while in Tulare County, and later moved to Arizona with wife, Cassie, where he died. They were both farmers. Lewis N. Atwood married Eliza Marilla Cole (Roberts)on 29 June 1887, and they had three children, Frank, Rose, and Robert Cole Atwood. Family information has always been very sketchy, and nobody knows exactly why. My grandfather, youngest son of Lewis N. Atwood, thought that the mother of Lewis N. Atwood was named Catherine, but my Grandma thought it to be Martha. Some old family pictures have a picture of a woman in front of a tall sundial sitting on the back of a turtle on top of a classic column, and the pictures are labelled Mrs. Conly, [my grandfather's] paternal grandmother. My grandfather, however, never actually met his grandmother, that he remembered. And nobody ever knew exactly why the photographs labeled her Mrs. Conly -- rather than Grandmother or Mother or something. Now you pretty much know everything about Lewis N. Atwood's family that we know. Obviously, this latest information placing the younger brother's birth in Sacramento is about the most concrete thing we DO know about anything before Lewis N. Atwood's marriage and family in Tulare County. deb Christensen
