Katherine, I'm pretty sure the Atwoods you found are connected to the Chemung County, New York gang or to Jedediah Atwood, Jr. who was in Bradford Co. One possibility for Silas is the son of David and Emily (?) Atwood. This Silas was born ca 1849, NY and was the fifth of David's children per the 1850 Catlin, Chemung Co., NY census. I will post that family here: David was probably the son of John and Betsey (Whitney) Atwood.
