The following query was on the Plymouth Co., MA board today. You will find two responses to the query below. Can anyone help? Cindy Kostka ====Original Message==== >>> [email protected] 6/18/00 1:47:28 AM >>> Does anyone know where Alice ATWOOD (who m. Wm. MULLINS) was born? Was she born abt. 1573? Was ATWOOD her maiden name or the name of her first husband? I have seen so many places where she was said to be born that perhaps no one knows. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks. Betty, Middleboro ====First response==== I think this is the person that the Mayflower Descendents groups say her maiden name is not known, and that the Atwood name given to her is not based on sound research. Roberta Casper Watson Direct line (813) 227-7487 ====Second response==== You are absolutely correct. The following comes from Mayflower authority Caleb Johnson's web page: "Further, the maiden name of his wife Alice is not known. It has not been shown to be Atwood, Poretiers, or any of the other identifications that are floating around. [Mayflower Descendant 44:44]. The identification of her as Alice Atwood is based solely on the fact that William Mullins mentions a "Goodman Woodes" in his will. That is clearly not enough evidence to make a genealogical connection! There is no evidence at all to show that Alice was the daughter of Nicholas Atwood of Westminster, Middlesex as claimed by the I.G.I. and Ancestral Files of the Morman church."
