This is reportedly an original document to the state of Rhode Island for a BOND issued by John Atwood of Scituate, Rhode Island in 1799 [1]http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120360509439 This is probably the John Atwood, son of John and Abigail (Lovett) Atwood, married to Robey Kimball. The seller states the document is dated 1786, but if you look close, it appears that it reads "the tenth year of the Independence of the United States Annoq Domini 1786", and I would interpret that to be 1796. See what you think...... Author: hobbyhorse Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.atwood/1244.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Holly, Perhaps you can give more specific information on your Alice Atwood that would help identify her. Is Atwood or Martinez her birth name? Do you know what the E stands for in her name? Do you know where she was born? (even a general location like "northern California" would help) Do you know when she died? Do you know where? Do you know anything else about her family? Parents or siblings names? You mentioned a phone conversation...do you have the phone number? That could help ....area code would give an idea of what part of the state she was in. Have you googled the number? You should not publish online personal information on your husband, of course. You could possibly obtain more information thru his own birth records, for instance. You could possibly find more information on his mother's death certificate too. Sometimes that can be found online. Some counties in California have great up-to-date public records available for viewing online. You would have to go to the county website. Some of that same data is available on a state level too. There are a lot of people who might attempt to find some of this information for you but they would need more specifics to know they are identifying the correct person. The more you can give, without revealing too much about living people, the better. Good luck in your search. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. She was born in California, and shortly after my husband was born, the small family quit seeing his moms family. My husband remembers his mom telling him his grandpa was somehow involved in airstream trailers. Alice had fair skin with freckles, I talked to her on the phone once and she was very personable and friendly.
