Hi Neva, I don't have Cyril in my Index. Where in Illinois is Belivdere Cemetery? I am curious because of my Josiah who died in Kendall Co., IL. Thanks. Joanne
Katherine, I'm pretty sure the Atwoods you found are connected to the Chemung County, New York gang or to Jedediah Atwood, Jr. who was in Bradford Co. One possibility for Silas is the son of David and Emily (?) Atwood. This Silas was born ca 1849, NY and was the fifth of David's children per the 1850 Catlin, Chemung Co., NY census. I will post that family here: David was probably the son of John and Betsey (Whitney) Atwood. The census is as stated 1850, Catlin, Chemung, NY David b. ca1810 NY Emily, b. ca1809 NY Jane, b. ca1839, NY John, b. ca1842, NY Deborah, b. ca1846, NY Silas, b. ca1849, NY This is from the Federal Archives Film 486, Series 432, Census taken 30 Jul 1850 by Abram Miner/Minier. Found at the Denver branch by me. Joanne Martin
Dorrice, I am in total agreement with your statement that what the Mormons do will not hurt me. I believe that God has everything under control anyway. About baptizing by proxy only those from whom they are descended. They can also baptize all the family members in a given family, and they can baptize for remote family members. I have an ancestor, Nancy Thurber, baptized by a "Mormon" who is descended from the same ancestor as Nancy but several generations back. I work at a Family History Center (am not Mormon), and one of my non-Mormon co-worker asked a member to baptize her whole family - no relation to the one who will do the proxy baptism whatsoever. So I think the Mormons are not in agreement on who can and who can't be baptized. Hope I haven't made things less clear. Even if they do this baptizing, it is a great way to get our genealogy out for the world. I hope everyone is aware, however, that a very great deal in the Ancestral file is in error. Joanne Martin
Deb, Do you have more on the parents of your Frank Atwood of Rome, NY? I'd be interested for my New York State Atwood collection. I see per the 1860 census index there is George in Paris, Lucus in Rome, Otis in Westmoreland, S. B. in Trenton and Vincent in Boonville. In 1840 there was a Thomas in Trenton. Thanks. Joanne Martin

I was walking a cemetery in Camptown, Bradford, Pa this afternoon and found three Atwood headstones. Do they belong to anyone's family ? Katherine Espey Smith ([email protected]) ================================= Nelson R. Atwood died May 5, 1869 Aged 58 Saraha (could be misspelled?) Wife of N.R. Died April 17, 1868 Age 52 Silas H. Atwood Died Feb 23, 1879 34 years And a fourth, small marker illegible except for a 3 or 8 or S and a dot and the letter A. They were all on the same concrete or granite base.
I would be most interested in making the connection to Carl Atwood. Just one of those things, that the kids can say.... "I'm related to..." <g> Can anyone find out who Carl's parents were ? He's not in my files. "This line descends to Carl Atwood b 1906 Clyde River NS m 1935 to Margaret Killam, d/o Dr. Harold Edwin Killam and Ora Louise Webster. (This was a double wedding as Kathleen Killam married at the same time.) Children of Carl and Margaret: 1 Harold Atwood b Feb 1937 2 Margaret Eleanor Atwood b Nov 1939 <=This is the author 3 Ruth Atwood b 1951" Brad [email protected] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~genesis ============================== Join the RootsWeb WorldConnect Project: Linking the world, one GEDCOM at a time. http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/ Add your GEDCOM today !!!

Greetings Everyone, A few years ago Arlene and I were looking around in the Belvidere Cemetery searching for the grave sites of ancestors and relatives and came across one for the above individual. We don't know who he is or even if he is related to us. Does anyone else recognize him and the information? The gravestone says simply: Cyril E. Atwood born 1893 died 1947 Arlene went back last Saturday to get the information and tried to find a death certificate, but could not locate it. If anyone has any information, we would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. Neva Babcock [email protected]
Cindy, I found references to this line in the Atwood Ancestors Vol 4, 5a (Glenda submitted her line there) and Vol 10. There might be more references, but I don't think I've seen anything to connect James B Atwood to anyone yet. > ---------- > From: [email protected] > Reply To: [email protected] > Sent: Monday, June 05, 2000 2:07 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [ATWOOD] Casey Atwood > > I don't know where they go in the Atwood line. Ruth, Yes, it is the James and Mary line I am researching. Actually, I have Green already in my listing, if you know anyone who is looking for him. When I get my line updated I was going to give it to Brad for his wonderful site. I have written a letter to Marcelle in hopes of more information. According to the internet, she is apparantly at the same address as she was 14 years ago, so I am hoping..... Thanks for trying!! Carol Keppen

I don't know if it is proper to ask about the genealogy of live people but I was wondering to what line Casey Atwood, the racecar driver belongs.
I don't know where they go in the Atwood line. I don't know who James B. Atwood's father and mother are. Glenda
Glenda - I don't have these folks listed in my files. Can you help me figure out where they go in the ATWOOD line please. I saw the name of Casey ATWOOD one day and wondered about him. Margaret Atwood, Canadian Author >From "The Red Shoes: Margaret Atwood Starting Out" 1998 by Rosemary Sullivan; First Ed. HarperCollins Publishers Ltd., Toronto, ON The author Margaret Atwood is descended from Joshua and Mary (Knowles) Atwood (Stephen Atwood and Abigail Dunham line) who emigrated from Truro MA to Barrington NS in about 1760. The Atwood name was common by the early 1900s, in the south shore area (note Atwoods Brook near Shag Harbour on southernmost tip of NS). [Note: Linda Ambill submitted extracts quite some time ago from "The History of Barrington Townships" where it was noted that Joshua who m Mary Knowles was a land grantee in 1767 I think it was.] This line descends to Carl Atwood b 1906 Clyde River NS m 1935 to Margaret Killam, d/o Dr. Harold Edwin Killam and Ora Louise Webster. (This was a double wedding as Kathleen Killam married at the same time.) Children of Carl and Margaret: 1 Harold Atwood b Feb 1937 2 Margaret Eleanor Atwood b Nov 1939 3 Ruth Atwood b 1951 So far I have not seen the name of Carl's father and mother. Also on the Atwood side, Margaret claims relationship to Cornwallis Moreau who is reported to be the first white child born in Halifax, in 1749. He died about 1840. His father was Jean Baptiste Moreau of Dijon France (a former monk). His mother's name was Elizabeth. Ruth Atwood [email protected] I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by.
Carol, Is it the Philip line you are referring to? If so, see Vol 9 that Brad sent in a few weeks ago; the book on Philip was started in that volume. If it is the James & Mary Turner line Family Tree submitted by Marcelle Luker - I have seen the name "Green Atwood" in Atwood List submissions, but I have not made the connection yet. Have you checked out Brad Pott's website for connections? Most of what I have accumulated comes from his records. (I am not a researcher, though I'd love to be! Maybe when I retire!) I will be getting more volumes of Atwood Ancestors from Susan Marston and will continue to transcribe.
