    1. [ATWOOD] Peter Atwood
    2. Hi Folks, I've inquired before, but it never hurts to ask again, being that our list is forever growing. Does anyone have any idea who Peter Atwood's parents were? There are 2 Peter Atwoods and they are often confused. Mine had his marriage intentions to Laura Whitney published in Chester, MA in 1814. That union produced my ggg-grandmother (Sophia Atwood/Daniels), born the same year. Our family records say that she (Sofia) was "part-indian". I believe it is true in seeing the pictures and generations forward. I know her mother, Laura, was of English descent, so that leaves Peter's heritage as the one in question. He remarried in 1825 to Mehitable Phebe Clark and raised another family. (we don't know what ever happened to Laura....and his second wife, Mehitable was listed as "mother" on Sophia's death certificate, so I'm assuming she raised her, not her natural mother, Laura) The only thing we really know about Peter is that he said (on various census) that he was born in NY State.....and probably died there between 1850 and 1860. (he was in China, NY in 1850) Any takers? The mystery continues.... Bev ([email protected])
