Source: GC-Bureau County ILGenWeb Queries URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Bureau?read=484 From: Cindi Thierfelder <[email protected]> Subject: Re: William Fosdick & Mary Griswold Surname: Fosdick, Griswold, Atwood ------------------------- WARNING: THIS IS ONLY A GUESS! I think William Fosdick who m. Mary Griswold in Bureau County IL may have been the son of Joel Fosdick & his first wife, Sally ATWOOD (she d. 1844 in Angelica, Allegany County, NY). I know of one child of this m: Sally who I believe may be the Sarah Fosdick who m. John King 1853 in Bureau County, IL. If so, Sally & William may have been living with or near Anthony Fosdick of Bureau County IL, who would have been their uncle. Remember this is only a place to begin looking! Joel is listed in the 1830 Washington County NY & in the 1840, 1850 & 1860 Allegany County NY Census indexes. So his children would have probably been born in those counties.

    1. [ATWOOD] Corvallis Atwoods
    2. Sandra K. Enkey
    3. Judy, you asked if my Atwood in Corvallis had any siblings. My Atwood was Winfred Atwood. He was a botany professor at OSU. As far as I know he was the only child of Jariel Root Atwood and Clara Garland McKenzie. However, I believe there were already Atwoods in the Corvallis, Oregon area before they moved there. I have always thought they must have had relatives in Oregon who encouraged them to relocate. Winfred and his wife, Sarah Louise Kent had two daughters, Margaret Kent Atwood and Dorothy McKenzie Atwood.

    2. To All, Yes, I seem to be missing submissions. Could it be that some of us (like me) don't know how to do a group send type thing via email and just rely on responding to letters as I am doing now. If I have a group thing to send, I usually just type in all the addresses that I am aware of. Joanne

    3. Thanks to everyone who responded. I also sent a message to the administrator of the list and returned from lunch to find I had received a whole bunch of submissions that had been sent last Friday, as well as my copy of this note that I sent this morning. Perhaps there was a 'plug' somewhere! Ruth, I seem to have had the same experience too. I always think I am just missing something in the sense of overlooking or forgetting ... not that it is something missing. How kind of you to mention it! I honestly can't say with any consistency what the sequence is .... I just know many many times someone has referenced mail I don't recall seeing in the original post. 3. Is anyone besides me having problems with (apparently) missing some submissions? The followings a good example of what I seem to see a lot. Richard has forwarded a note that was sent to the Atwood List on Friday, 9 June 2000. I received Allen's note, sent Sat 10 June, but not the original. I have seen several emails that look like a continuation of a conversation where I missed the original. If it is just happening to me, I'll ask my system administrator to check it out, but I wanted to check the list first. Maybe Rootsweb is having a problem? Please let me know if others are experienceing this - or have an explanation! 3. Ran across this in my scouring of California for ATWOOD references. No other information is given about her ancestry. History of San Joaquin County, California - By George H. Tinkham; Historic Record Company, Los Angeles, CA (1923) - page 463 Thomas B. PARKER was born in San Joaquin County Oct 22, 1862, son of Thomas B. and Margaret (GIVENS) PARKER, both natives of Hopkinsville, KY. Thomas B. (the father) died when Thomas was a year old and Margaret married M. E. BRYANT. When he was 19 years old he went to Mason Valley NV, then returned to Lockeford. On May 8, 1884, at Lockeford, he married his first wife, Miss Margaret ATWOOD, a native of Logansport, IN. They had two children: Roy, who met his death at the age of 14 and Edith, who died at the age of 22. Margaret died in January of 1920 from influenza.
