For starters. John H. Atwood was married in Charleston, MO. New Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery is in Paragould, AR not Haliday. John Henry Atwood is buried there. I attended his funeral. Joe Lee Atwood is buried at Halliday at the New Liberty Baptist Church of Halliday. Joe Lee Atwood, a Southern Baptist minister and blacksmith, died while preaching at the New Liberty Baptist Church which he co-founded with his wifes father. Deacon John Baker. Ruth, I believe you are correct on #5-8 on the Gilbert Atwood list. #7-Thomas is my gggrandfather's brother and his son is Patrick. They are listed in the 1850 Morgan Co., Ohio census records. There is a book called "The Genealogy of the Gilbert Atwood family" and I have found a copy in Ky. of this book. In fact I was just in touch with the library today and they are willing to loan it and I should have it by early next week. It was written by an Atwood descendent born in 1910 so it probably is pretty accurate. I should be able to share info next week. Barb

As it happens I am also looking for information regarding my father's family (Atwood) as I have never been able to find anything about Walter Sanford ATWOOD's siblings. However, I need to correct something: Walter Sanford ATWOOD was born in 1858 in Georgia. He married Annie Brown in Oklahoma in 1894. John and Marietta married in Granville, Licking, Ohio in 1827 and George was born 18 Apr 1829 in Newark, Licking, Ohio. Georgia married Elizabeth Hewitt 12 Oct 1853 in Licking Co, Ohio and they moved to Marshall, Clark, Illinois by Jul 1863. Marietta Spelman Atwood was born in Granville, Licking, Ohio and died in Kearney, Nebraska in 1868. I do not have a record of John Langdon's death. George had one sister that I am aware of, Abigail. Nicholas Attwood (aka Samuel N. At[t]wood in the US) was born c Apr, 1833, probably near Uckfield. By 1848, he listed his land residence as Wandsworth. He was a sailor. And he emigrated to the US by the mid-1850s. I have found a family from whom he may be descended*, but to date I have no proof. Nicholas and Elizabeth Attwood had four children in Selmeston between 1805 and 1815-ish. John, Samuel, Nicholas, and Elizabeth. It is possible one of the sons may be my Nicholas/Samuel's father. It seems that Elizabeth may have married a Richardson before 1841 (census), when she is listed in Framfield with a woman Elizabeth Atwood, who would appear to be her mother. I checked the LDS microfilm for Selmeston, and no Attwoods appear before the christening year of Nicholas and Elizabeth's first child, nor do any seem to be there after the christening of the youngest. I have also checked the Uckfield microfilms, and while there were many Attwoods, there were no records that seemed to fit the one's for which I am looking. I have tried to check the 1841 censuses for both places, but the films were not very legible. I am at a very tall brick wall with this search. So I humbly request that as you go through the various Sussex and Surrey records of the early 1800s, you might keep me in mind and send me any Attwood notations you might come across which might help me whittle away at this impasse. Interesting note: as I went through the Selmeston records, I was amazed at how many people had the surname Avis. Perhaps it was his mother's maiden name??
