Atwood, 86, died Monday, April 28, 2008, at Somerset Rehabilitation & Living Center in Bingham. She was born Nov. 19, 1921, in Lexington, the daughter of Lauriston and Alma (Durrell) Young. Roberta attended Bingham schools, graduating from Bingham High School as valedictorian of the class of 1939. She wrote the school song that is still used today at Valley High School. She enjoyed sewing, writing poetry, reading and was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley L. Atwood Sr., and a granddaughter, Aileen Atwood. She is survived by her sons, Stanley L. "Sonny" Atwood Jr. and his long time companion, Ann Bailey, of Canaan, and Norman C. Atwood and his wife, Ellen, of Gales Ferry, Conn.; a granddaughter, Monika Frigon and her husband, Brian, of Bingham; a grandson, Douglas Atwood of Florida; great-grandchildren, Quentin and Makaela Frigon; four half-sisters, Laura Lonergan and her husband, Dale, Fay MacFarland, Lois Loucks and Jackie Gordon; a half-brother, Donald Handrahan and his wife, Lynn; many nieces and nephews. At Bobby's request, there will be no funeral services. Interment will be in the Bingham Village Cemetery. Cremation arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 18 River St., Bingham.
The Billings Gazette 23 April 2008 Larry Raymond Atwood JOLIET - Loving husband, father, son and brother, Larry Raymond Atwood went to be with the Lord, April 21, 2008. He loved his family and dedicated his life to taking care of them. Camping together, hunting together, working on cars, watching the history channel, cutting wood and always lending a helping hand to anyone in need was our Larry. He loved working with his hands. His work was always done with excellence. Larry was born in Billings, Aug. 19, 1967, and grew up in Roundup. After high school, he moved to California to work, where he met and married Cathy Burruss, June 20, 1992. After their son Chance was born April 10, 1993, the family moved back to Montana, settling in Joliet. Cody was born June 10, 1996, to Larry and Cathy here in Joliet. Survivors include his wife Cathy; sons Chance and Cody; his mom and dad, Eldon and Norma Atwood; mother-in-law Milly Burruss; brother-in-law Rick (Lena) Burruss and family; sisters Gailene (Geoff) Casey and Diana (Dave) Roen and family; brother David and Cathy Atwood and family. We love you, Larry, and will miss you greatly. Thank You, Lord, for You are our strength and help at this time. Funeral services for Larry will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Wesleyan Church in Joliet. Interment will be in the Absarokee Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Joliet Community Center. Preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, James Donald Atwood; and brother, Lucien Locke. Survived by son, Zach Atwood; daughter, Tracy (Jeff) Weyrich; brothers, Nick (Dot) Locke and Charlie Locke; grandchildren, Skyla and Savannah Weyrich; and numerous nephews and nieces. Mrs. Atwood was an educator for 30 yrs, 1st grade teacher at Mt. Juliet Elementary for 13 yrs and principal of Gladeville Elementary for 17 years. Services for Mrs. Atwood will be Tuesday, April 29th, 11 a.m. at Mt. Juliet Church of Christ with Bro. David Shannon officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as Pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, April 28th from 2 - 8 p.m. at Sellars at Mt. She was the daughter of Henry Stephens of Grant and Essie Dalton McGehee of New Hope. She is also survived by one daughter, Dana Michelle Lipscomb of Owens Cross Roads; one son, Michael Shannon Lipscomb of Somerville; one sister, Karen Britton of Paint Rock; two brothers, Billy Ray Stephens of New Market and Phillip Wayne Stephens of Gurley; and four grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by New Hope Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Mary E. Atwood The Salem News <www.salemnews.com> 3/18/2008 BEVERLY - Mary E. (Gallagher) Atwood, 68, wife of Robert F. Atwood, died Sunday morning, March 16, 2008 at her residence. Born in Salem, daughter of the late George and Emma M. (St. Jean) Gallagher, she was raised in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School in the class of 1957. Mary and Bob married in 1960 and have lived in Beverly for the past 45 years. Mrs. Atwood had been employed as a receptionist for Beverly Pediatrics for 10 years. During her retirement, Mary and her husband Bob moved to Sunset, N.C., where they built their retirement home. They were there for several years before returning to Beverly. Mrs. Atwood loved to cook, knit and dance, but most especially, she loved her family and enjoyed caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. Surviving her in addition to her husband are three children, Donald G. Atwood and his wife Carolyn of Bolton, Jeffrey M. Atwood of Beverly, Sharon L. Page of Rochester, N.H.; one brother, Michael Gallagher of Salem; one sister, Elise Altergott of Vienna, Md.; four grandchildren, Brian and Christopher Page, Matthew and Robert Atwood; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Robert W. Atwood and grandmother of the late Kevin Page. ARRANGEMENTS: A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Central Cemetery, Beverly. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Campbell - Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly. Atwood, formerly from the Compton Community, passed from this world at 12: 23 a.m. March 7, 2008, after a brief illness. Mr. Atwood is survived by five children: three daughters, Linda Winn and husband, Henry of Longview, Darlene Daily and husband, Mike of New London and Deeana Graham and husband, Steven of Henderson; and two sons, Sam Bommarito of Kilgore and Lynn Atwood of Kilgore. Howard Wright Atwood The Akron Beacon Journal <www.ohio.com> 4/3/2008 TALLMADGE -- Howard Wright Atwood, 85, passed away April 1, 2008. Howard was born on the farm that his great-great-great-grandfather, Richard Fenn bought from Colonel Benjamin Tallmadge in 1818. He graduated from Tallmadge High School in 1941 and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Howard graduated from Kent State University in 1948. After Howard returned from the service and finished college, he was interested in building homes as a business. Atwood Construction was formed and the early projects at the beginning of the 1950's were: 25 houses on Stadium Dr.; four on Kent Dr.; seven on Outlook; four on Nottingham; ten on Highland Dr.; and five on Parmelee. In addition, homes were built on the east side of Ernest Dr. and later the major development of the family farm, called the Stillmeadow Estates. The Akron Home Builders Association purchased part of the Stillmeadow Estates land for the 1963 Parade of Homes. Howard continued to be a land developer, sales company and home builder, buying land and developing throughout Tallmadge, some of which included Regency Park, Pheasant Run, Starrline Dr., and Indian Parks Dr. He also developed land in the Brimfield area. In 1963, Howard became a member of the Board of Directors of the Falls Savings and Loan Bank in Cuyahoga Falls. During his tenure on the Falls Savings Board, he completed many appraisals for the bank. In 1973, he was elected Chairman of the Board and in 1987, Chief Executive Officer for the Falls Savings and Loan Bank. In 1989, Falls Savings and Loan was acquired by Fifth Third Bank. Howard was a member of the Akron Area Board of Realtors and the Home Builders Association of Greater Akron, a life Director of the National Association of the Home Builders and past Trustee of the Akron Regional Development Board. He also served on the Tallmadge Planning and Zoning Committee. Howard was honored in 1999 by the Chamber of Commerce for 50 years of continuous business in Tallmadge. He also was a member of First Congregational Church of Tallmadge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Sackett and Geneva Wright Atwood; brother, Walter G. Atwood; and sister, Jeannette R. Parks. He is survived by his wife, Joann; daughters, Loraine (James) Ingrasci of Buffalo, New York, Michelle McGuire of Tallmadge, and Diane L. Smith of Austin, Texas; stepsons, Fred Kalail of Tallmadge, Scott Kalail of Akron, and Kraig Kalail of Brimfield; grandchildren, Jennifer, Katherine, Meghan, Dustin, Erica and Sarah; sister, Carolyn (James) Mackey of Tallmadge; and sister-in-law, Harriett G. Atwood of Tallmadge. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2008 at First Congregational Church of Tallmadge, 85 Heritage Dr., Tallmadge, with Rev. Dr. John Schluep officiating.
