He was Anna's second husband, her first being Wm. Kinder who was probably killed in the Civil War. In 1860, Anna and her husband were living next to her sister, Minerva J., and the sister's husband, Louis H. Anderson, in Tazewell Co., VA. The same census counts a "Prettyman Atwell" age 16 in the household of Anna's father, Samuel. Prettyman Atwell is the son of William H. Atwell of Smyth Co., VA. Samuel's parents, Charles, lived in Smyth Co. until the late 1850's. I can't find W.B. on the census before 1870, but he and Anna must have been married between 1862 and 1864 as their oldest son Samuel was 16 in the 1880 census. My cousin said that W.B. and Anna raised my grandmother, Annie, and three of her sisters after their mother, Lucy, died in 1880. There was a fourth sister, Alice Fo(a)rd, but I can't find any trace of her. My father always said that grandmom's sister, Letitia, had died young, but I have seen a record of her marriage, so it might have been Mecca. My brother has an album with a picture of "Cousin Willie Atwell", but he won't give it up for me to copy.
