Here is 1 of my 2 ATWELLS Charles Atwell m. Laura Ingerson b. abt 1830 in Greenfield, Saratoga Co., NY Melissa (Bruno)Ward http://www.wardhistory.com
Desperately seeking the family of Rebecca Rosetta ATWELL - She was born abt 1830 in Indiana (1850 Sabine Parish, LA, census and 1860 Trinity County, TX census) - She was first married to a man named Miller abt 1848. Research so far indicates that her first husband was probably named Brice Miller, son of Asa Miller. This marriage probably took place in Simpson County, Miss., but no marriage records of that era exist there. He had died by the time that the 1850 census was taken in Sabine Parish, LA. - That marriage produced one child, Amanda Miller, b 1849 in Louisiana. - Rebecca Rosetta MILLER married as her second husband Isaac S. EAVES on 18 Sept. 1851, Sabine Parish, LA. The marriage took place at the residence of Asa MILLER and witnesses were Davis MILLER, John MILLER and George W.TATOM. Their children: - Burrell Ross - b Aug 1853, Sabine Parish, LA - Lucinda Addeline - b 27 Aug 1854, Sabine Parish - James Benjamine - b. 15 Apr 1856, Sabine Parish - E.B. "Ebb" - b ca 1856 Sabine Parish or Trinity County, TX - Matilda Caroline - b Dec 1857, Trinity County - Abel Lewis (my grandfather) b 7 June 1860, Trinity County - Rebecca Rosetta (Atwell) Miller EAVES died ca 1862 in Trinity County. Hope someone out there can help me Janey E. Joyce in San Antonio, TX jejoyce@texas.net
Hello All! As a way of introduction, I would like to introduce myself as your new ATWELL-L list administrator, and to thank Larry for allowing me to help preserve this list. There are very few of us researching the ATWELL name, and this list is important for all of us in sharing our research results! I am originally from Kentucky, and presently live in Florida. My ATWELL connection is through a maternal line of one of my BASTIN ancestors. As for running a surname list, I started the BASTIN surname list almost exactly one year ago on the Maiser server at Indiana University, and I am still the list administrator for BASTIN-L, which is presently being run through RootsWeb, of which I am also sponsor. I also started the BASTIN Family Website, which includes my ATWELL connections, back in August. If anyone wants to visit this website, it is located at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/9714/ If I can be of service at any time, please e-mail! I will be re-posting my ATWELL queries shortly, since it has been a while since I first posted them, and there is a good chance that there may have been new subscribers to ATWELL-L since I first posted them. Likewise, I would like to encourage all subscribers to re-post their ATWELL queries if it has been more than a few months since you last posted them. There may be a long-lost cousin lurking who may hold the key to making some ancestral connections! Thanks, Larry, for allowing me to become the ATWELL-L list administrator. Best Regards, -- Gary Bastin Palm Bay, Florida
Mary Frances HARRISON b. Nov. 1832 in Lawrence Co. OH married when/where? to Joseph M. NORRIS b. VA June 1826 >From NORRIS family history lore: Joseph M. NORRIS walked from Wheeling WV at the age of 6 or 7 (which was VA then?) with his mother. All that is known about his mother is that her last name may have been SONNER or SONGER. Family lore is that Joseph took the last name of his stepfather--NORRIS, and that his real name may have been ATWELL, or something similar to that. Joseph is located with the family of John NORRIS in Lawrence Co, OH. If John really was Joseph's stepfather, Joseph's mother had died and John had remarried before the 1850 census. Joseph may have had at least one half- brother, named George NORRIS. Joseph NORRIS and Mary Frances HARRISON eventually moved to Shannon/Carter Counties, in Missouri and all the Norrises in the area are their direct descendants. Mary HARRISON NORRIS was a duaghter of Solomon and Mary "Polly" Dodd HARRISON. Is anyone else related to this family, or have any information or ideas as to how I might find out more about Joseph's mother, and the mystery behind my family's last name? Thanks Lynne Norris
Greetings, The new listowner for the ATWELL mail list is Gary Bastin. Thanks Gary for stepping up and taking over for me. Gary's address is gbastin@bb.iu.net I'll still be on the list. So keep trying to find those ATWELL ancestors. Larry Gaian Rocklin, CA
1997 has been a great year for my family and I. But increased responsibilities at work have made it difficult to continue my present activity level, at least as far as genealogy is concerned. For that reason I am in need of someone to take over the list your are receiving this message on. If you are interested please contact me so I can explain what it requires. (It's not a lot!) Keep in mind that if no one steps forward to take over, the list will close down. Thanks for you understanding. Larry Gaian Rocklin, CA

An online genealogy forum has been setup specifically for the Atwell family. It can be found at the following address: http://www.genforum.com/atwell It has been setup for you to post your family information. This is a one-time message, we're sorry for any inconvenience. Thanks GenForum Staff
Some of the list I manage have been hit by a notice for a new website. These family forum websites have been set up for all of the lists on rootsweb. I won't go into all the hoopla this website has caused amongst the list owners. But I will caution all of you against sending information to these websites. It is believed by some that this information may someday be used for commercial purposes. I have no proof that this is the case, but in discussion with others I consider to be good sources I have been told that this might be the case. DO NOT believe that just because this information was send out via the list that it is endorsed by me or rootsweb. It is NOT. The messages were posted without my permission by someone that is NOT a subscribed member. I'm not saying don't use the site, just be cautious... Questions? Email me privately.... I am researching my Ruble line. They came from Bavaria Germany. AUlrich Ruble is suppose to have come ca 1710 and a Balus Ruble circa 1960. They were in Pennsylvania when they first came over. Balus was suppose to have been in Bucks County. If you know any thing about either of these I would sure appreciate it or if you know where I can write to find it. I need to determine if they really came during these years and which one I am descended from. Joanna jelong@pacifier.com

Once every three months or so I try and pop up and remind everyone that the lists are growing all the time. And that it would be a great idea to send in a query about their lines so all the new members can have the 'opportunity' to help out. So here it is... Take just a moment and post a brief outline of your research interests, relative to this list. I know I would appreciate it and so would others. Thanks in advance for your assistance...
