Here is what I have: Norris, James Family: Marriage: 1855 Spouse: Bastin, Amanda J. Birth : 2 Jan 1841 (or 8 Sep 1841 according to Pearl Bastin Herring) Death : moved to TN bef 26 Jun 1855; married at age 14 Parents: Father: Bastin, William C. 'Billy' Mother: Dickerson, Sarah A. 'Sallie' The ATWELL connection is back a little ways. William C. Bastin's father was William B. Bastin. William B. Bastin had a brother named Thomas Bastin, Jr. Thomas Bastin Jr married Mary W. Atwell. Thomas Bastin Jr and Mary W. Atwell Bastin had a daughter named Martha B. 'Patsy' Bastin. Martha married Richard Atwell. Now, I know that Richard Atwell and Patsy Bastin were cousins. But, this is where the known connections stop. I don't know who Mary W. Atwell Bastin's parents were, nor do I know for sure who Richard Atwell's parents were either. Bastin, Martha B. 'Patsy' Birth : ABT. 1815 Caswell Co, NC Death : Richard & Patsy were cousins; went to MO after 1850. Parents: Father: Bastin, Thomas , Jr. Mother: Atwell, Mary W. (Wayson?) (And, in your Norris research, have you found any descendants for James Norris and Amanda Bastin Norris?) (Details on these, and other ATWELL, BASTIN family ties are on the BASTIN Family Website at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/9714/ if anyone wants to check for relatives :-) -- Gary Bastin

    2. Does anyone have info on an ATWELL lady being married to a John NORRIS, possibly in VA or KY? The time would've been ca. 1820? He was born in 1807 and married in 1829, however, he had children at the time of this marriage. Family tradition tells of an ATWELL/NORRIS union of some sort, but we have not been able to prove it. Mary W. Atwell Bastin, who was married to Thomas Bastin Jr, lived in these areas. She was born in Maryland on 17 Nov 1780. Although I have found several 'known' ATWELL relatives for her, I have not been able to identify her parents. She died 26 Jan 1852 in (now) Metcalfe County, KY. A daughter of Thomas Bastin Jr and Mary W. Atwell named Martha B. 'Patsy' Bastin married Richard Atwell. I know Richard and Patsy were cousins, but don't have any kinship details. Their marriage was in January 1836 in Barren County, KY. Richard and Patsy Atwell went to Missouri after 1850. Patsy later married Thomas REED in Miller Co, MO. Richard was born in ABT. 1813 in Green County, KY. Patsy was born in ABT. 1815 in Caswell County, NC. Do you know where your Joseph Atwell was born, or any of his siblings names? -- Gary Bastin

    3. A Quick Note on Mail Attachments, HTML, Rich Text Fonts, etc.: Rootsweb, our host, is in the process of adding a SmartList hack that blocks file attachments (including VCARDS), HTML messages and enriched text postings. Just plain ASCII will be all that will be allowed through RootsWeb in the near future. This note is to let you know how it will work. When a poster sends something to a mailing list written in HTML, or with an attached file, the list server will send the poster's message back to them, with a note at the bottom explaining the plain-text requirement at RootsWeb. For turning the html or styled text off in various email programs, check out the following site. http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm We have generally not had any problems with this in the past. However, Outlook, and many other mail programs now default to HTML, which _will_ activate the new filters. Check out the URL mentioned above if you change Mail programs, or if you haven't yet turned off the fancy text options in your e-mail program, to avoid any bounced posts in the future! Permilia married Brinson "Doc" Singletary in 1871 and Susanna married Jerome Davis in 1870. Both of these families settled in Jasper County, Texas. Their father was William Atwell b. abt. 1821 in North Carolina and his parents were also born in North Carolina. Their mother was Helen (Healin) Wood b. abt 1820 in North Carolina. Her parents were Joseph Wood and Amelia S. Singletary. Also, Brinson Singletary's (mentioned above) mother was Susan Wood, a sister to Helen Wood. The Singletary's appear to have been in the Bladen Co., NC area. Anyone have a connection to these people? Thanks, Kerry Girolamo Groves, Texas
