    3. The Evening News San Jose Mercury News July 13, 1889 pg. 3 THE BRIDE'S AGE. _____________ She Declares That She Was Born in 1885. "The lady I intend to marry wrote that down herself, and I guess it's right," said Thomas Attridge, a laborer, aged 50, to Marriage License Clerk Danforth, yesterday afternoon. Upon a slip of paper was written Margaret Ryan, born August 4, 1885." "This is the lady you are going to marry, is it?" asked the clerk. "Yes, sir. Neither of us have ever been married." "Will you swear that Miss Ryan is only 4 years of age?" "Does that paper say it?" "Yes." "I guess she made a mistake. She's 46 if she's a day. I guess I'd better go back and make her put it down that way." Ryan went away and came back in an hour with the proper date and got his license.-Chronicle. mbousman7@cox.net
