"The lady I intend to marry wrote that down herself, and I guess it's right," said Thomas Attridge, a laborer, aged 50, to Marriage License Clerk Danforth, yesterday afternoon. Upon a slip of paper was written Margaret Ryan, born August 4, 1885." "This is the lady you are going to marry, is it?" asked the clerk. "Yes, sir. Neither of us have ever been married." "Will you swear that Miss Ryan is only 4 years of age?" "Does that paper say it?" "Yes." "I guess she made a mistake. She's 46 if she's a day. Katie and James married in London in 1886. Their children were: Frederick Lindsay Roycroft ATTRIDGE born c. 1888, Olive ATTRIDGE born c.1890, Wyndham Courtney ATTRIDGE born c. 1892, Beatrice Muriel Winifred ATTRIDGE born c. 1894, Doris Edna Kathleen ATTRIDGE born c. 1898. James Attridge was a minister of religion and was the Reverend of St. Michael's Church, Spennithorne, Leyburn, Yorkshire, England. He and his children are on the British 1901 census. Hello, This is my first email to the list. I'm Jay Gieseking from Minnesota. I was wondering if anyone had information that can link the Gieseking family back to Germany? My great grandfather Wilhelm James Paul Gieseking is from Berlin and relocated to Minnesota around 1890. The family has a coat-of-arms in Minden, Germany. It's in the original family home, the Gieseking Haus. I can't trace my lineage directly to it though. If anyone has information they would like to swap, please respond.

I wonder if anyone has a connection please? I have a JAMES Attridge who married Isabella Lancefield who says on his marriage certificate dated 2 April 1877 that his father was SAMUEL ATTRIDGE a bootmaker and the marriage was at Gordon Square, Middlesex (London). I am having trouble finding James' birth certificate (1842-1844). All census' after his marriage say he was born in Chelmsford, Essex and the nearest I have got to a James born in Chelmsford is Great Baddow whose father was Simon a shoemaker. Simon and son James are in the 1861 census and I am very tempted to go along this line! If his father was SAMUEL ATTRIDGE I haven't found him with James on an earlier census so would appreciate it if anyone has any information on a SAMUEL ATTRIDGE. I have seen a Samuel Attridge marrying twice and living in Wanstead in 1881, but no mention of any children can I find. Thank you all in anticipation. Regards Frances McBride
