I'm looking at old colonial VA documents and wondering- Does anyone know who Captain John Ashby of the H.M.S. Rose was? He and Sir John Berry of H.M.S. Bristol convoyed to America with the command to put down Bacon's rebellion in Nov 1676. I wonder if any connection has been found. Also, I saw a Thomas Ashby b. abt 1599 of Aldgate, London. He too was a Captain involved with early VA colonization. Hmmmm Why did these Ashbys have to name all their sons either John or Thomas? Julia
