    3. Hi Ann, Yes, there is some information being put on different web sites that say that, Thomas of SC is the same as Thomas of VA, who married Rose. It is said that the Thomas of SC was the son of John. The only Ashby's found in the very early period of SC (1670-80) was a John Ashby Sr and Jr. John Sr.'s wife was Elizabeth Thorowgood and John Jr.'s wife was Constantia ----, John had two daughter's also, named Jemima and Theodosia. John Jr. and his wife went back to Eng. about 1680. I don't know if they came back to VA or not. It is said that John had a son Thomas there also. (I spent two years at Salt Lake City looking in the old microfilms for SC and found no proof of it. If there is one, I sure would like to know the citation for it. I would love for it to be true, just tell me where to find the source !! Anyway, it is said that Thomas ( the purported son of John was married first to a Elizabeth Le Jeu and when she died, he moved to VA and married Rose (Berry?). The problem is that the marriage to Elizabeth Le Jeu took place in 172-- ( I think I'm recalling this date correctly but, whatever it was, I believe it was too late for it to have been our Thomas, anyway. The first son of Thomas and Rose was John b. abt 1707. Plus, according to at least one history book ( and don't ask me now which it was) says that Thomas Ashby was in VA by 1690. Now, there is a Thorowgood family in VA, a fairly well known one. The immigrant was Adam Thorowgood/Thorougood. So, there may be some truth to all of this. I have looked in some of the Thorowgood material trying to see some mention of any Ashby's and found none there. Of course, I'm sure I haven't looked in all the places and possible connections. But, I have been looking for many, many years. So, as I said, I want to believe, so somebody, Please Prove it to me. !! Well, I'll get off my soapbox now, please forgive ! Please don't think I'm directing any of this to you personally, hope I didn't make you think that. Just talking in general, to everyone. Just had to get that off my chest!... And to half way answer your question. No, I don't think Thomas was the immigrant. There were very early Ashby/Ashbie/Asbie/Asby's in the colonies. A John, & Edward/Edmond were here in the 1600's. Then there was a New England branch of the Ashby's (Nathaniel) that became Mormon and they help found Salt Lake City. So, our Thomas may have come from that branch, pre-1700. But, I may be wrong. Thomas May Be the immigrant. Just has never been proven one way or the other. Have I confused everyone enough, yet ? <VBG> Thanks, Sue Ann Schulz wrote: > > I am looking for the parents of Thomas Ashby who was married to Rose of > Va.
