    3. I am interested in the four families I am descended from through my grandparents; the Smiths, Johnstons, Williams, and Ashbys. On the Johnstons and Ashbys, I am able to go all the way back to the founders of those families, Stephen de Cherie and Richard de Ashby. However, I have read there is a Williams ancestor, Rhys Goch, and a Smith ancestor, Neil Cromb. Is there any short biographical info and these family founders? I know there is a book out, as of recent, which I am going to order, which goes over the Johnson (all Johnson families in the US, Johnston was changed) history and in fact has the names and addresses of just about all the Johnsons in the country. I was wondering if there are any books like this on the Smiths, Ashbys, or Williamses. Also, do these families have heritage clubs, or is there perhaps a good heritage club in general which will offer information on the family founders?

    1. Ashby
    2. Hi All, I have just joined the Ashby List. The Ashby Roots I am searching are in Kentucky. On our paternal side we are back to Peter Ashby & Winnifer Timmons to their son Henry Ashby & Nancy Crews to their daughter Tabitha Ashby & Rufus Branson to their son James B.Branson & Cornelia Bumpass to their daughter Effie Branson & Robert H.Tolbert to their son Edwin A.Tolbert & Mary Frances Tooley. Also on this side of the family Rufus Branson's parents were Balos (Bayless) Branson & Ann Timmons. Her parents were George Timmons and Rose Ashby. On the maternal side, also in Kentucky, the parents of Mary Frances Tooley were Argyle Tooley & Synthia Welborn his father was George Tooley & Mary Frances Lyons his father Thomas Tooley & Elizabeth "Betsy" Ashby. I have nothing on Elizabeth's line. I know she was born in Ohio Co., Ky., probably in 1813 and married Thomas Tooley September 11, 1845 in Ohio Co. They are listed in the 1850 Ohio Co. Census with children Charles W,4; George W.,3 (our line); Sarah C.,2; and Peter T.,4/12. If anyone could help me with Elizabeth's parents I would be very grateful. Thanks, Judy Tolbert
