MY ASHBY LINE WERE IN HALIFAX CO. VA. AS EARLY AS 1700 'S . MY JOSEPH WAS BORN THERE IN 1759.HIS SON JOSEPH JR., BORN 1790 MARRIED CHARITY WATTS, BORN 1800 THERE JAN.17, 1827. THERE SON ANDREW THOMAS ASHBY , BORN 1827 WAS MY GREAT GRANDFATHER.ALL BORN IN HALIFAX CO. VA. WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU AREA WORKING ON THIS ASHBY LINE. I AGREE , LETS HAVE SOME ACTIVITY ON THIS SITE. NELLIE ASHBY COLLINS CARSON, VA.
I found a resource at an Ashby website: Here is the URL: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/4308/ashby.html Correction: Thomas d. 1n 1752 & was m to Rose Berry, whose marriage record is at the LDS site. This begins with Thomas Ashby of VA who died around 1779, I think. He was the father of Capt John Ashby who served under Washington and was married to the rather notorious Jean Combs (Gen Washington wrote a letter to her husband telling him he had better curb his wife.) Other children are listed, including Elizabeth who is the one, I am sure, who married John Stacy, my connection with the Ashby line. There are about 3 generations given, as I recall, for each of the original offspring of Thomas. I was thrilled as I had searched near and far for my elusive Eliz. Ashby ggg, etc. gm. Hope some of you find this as helpful as I did Margaret Combs Jan Hood wrote: > Researching the ASHBYs of Fauquier County, Va. > > I'm new to this list, about 3 weeks now, but there doesn't seem to be > much activity. Hi Nick, Thanks for posting. Sorry to be so long in getting back to you. It's interesting, in as most of the Ashby's I've researched, in England, come from Hertfordshire or Leicestershire. I think most of the Ashby's on this list, come from a Thomas Ashby, who was in VA. in late 1600's and died in 1752, there. Many thought he was the same Thomas who came to SC and was married to a Thorowgood He named his plantation in SC "Quenby" and it was supposed to be in memory of his ancestral home in S. Croxton, Leicestershire, England. At any rate, it isn't the same man, but we all feel there is a relationship. There was an Edward Ashby in Salem Mass. in early 1600's, also an Anthony Ashby. Many others came in the colonial period. But, not solid link to old Thomas. It was good to hear from you, please let us know, if there are links you need checking on this side of the pond <g> Does anyone on the list, have any ties to Nick? Hello! I am searching for information regarding my 3xgr.Grandfather's Ananias ASHBY, born 1795, Dutchess Co. N.Y.His wife was Esther KETCHUM, born 10 Nov. 1800 Dutchess Co. N.Y. Ananias's parents were Anthony and Mary ? Ashby from Groton, Ct. I would like to know more about this line. Who were Anthony's parents, what was Mary's last name. Who were Esther Ketchum's parents? I think this family is possibly descended from the Anthony Ashby who settled in Salem, Ma. in the 1630's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention.
