My grandmother (93 years old) is an Ascher. She told me that the Aschers were originally the Asche family. There are still many Aschers in the Stephenson County area of Illinois. >From doing research on Ancestry, I was able to confirm that the Asches and the Aschers are the same- when the name changed, I am not sure. I would suggest you try looking up information on Ascher(my great, great grandfather is Simon)-I believe that Hilke is in the lineage somewhere, that name is familiar to me. The Asches/Aschers immigrated to IL from Germany in 1846. I have been able to trace info. back to the 1760's in Germany thus far. For further research, Silvercreek is an unincorporated area in Stephenson County IL. I would suggest you look into Freeport IL, where many Aschers were and still are.
