If you look at a map of Hannover, Lower Saxony you will see above and slightly to the right a body of water called the Steinhuder Meer. just below this body of water is a large town called Wunstorf which has a area called Schloss Ricklingen. This is were the oldest known relative lived his surname was "Aschen". A desendent later moved to a village called Luthe, which is very close to Schloss Ricklingen, and changed his name to "Asche" his son married into a blacksmith and small farm in Seelze which is app 5km from Hannover-Linden. I have aquired a copy of the Kopfsteuer Lists (Headtax) for Callenberg for the year 1689 which give a few "Aschen" names but no "Asche".
