Hi list, I am searching for information on Susan ASBURY married to David STONE on 29 March 1840 in Virginia (now West Virginia) or North Carolina. I also believe that Susan died before 1843, probably without children (David STONE remarried this year). The 1830 census for Kanawha County West Virginia has a couple of possible fathers for Susan Asbury, (Nimrod and Joseph and Isaac and there is also a Henry ASBURY). In the 1850 census it shows a Steven ASBURY living with David STONE: Steven's age is 23. If anyone has any information on this couple it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. My Grandparents were Sarah Perry Christian and Samuel Asbury. They never had much money, but they had a lot of love and caring in their family. I don't think that Grandpa played any musical instrument, but Grandma played the banjo and the zither. Her son, Ray, played the fiddle. Grandpa's brother, Albert Anderson Asbury, also played the fiddle, and they all enjoyed the music. Grandma, true to her name, was a good Christian. She belonged to the Pentecostal Church. They are both buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Chester, Illinois. I still miss them. My Dad's Dad and Mother died before I was born, and I missed so much by not knowing them. They are both buried in Evansville, Randolph County, IL. Velda Moore
My grandparents were William Claudious Markle and Icy Avalee Asbury. William was born in Clay County, on October 23, 1882, his parents were Daniel Webster Markle and Margaret Susan Grose. William married Icy Avalee Asbury on 2-12-1916, she was his third and last wife. Icy was the daughter of James Allen Asbury and Arminta Christina Thomas and she was born in Kanawha County, Poca District, near Liberty (Liberty is in Putnum county). They had four children, and were together until William died on 11-23-1962, grandma lived until 12-30-1971. They are buried in the new Markle cemetery on my grandpa William's land at Maysel, W.Va. which is where they lived their whole married lives. My Grandpa was a road contractor mostly, but also worked on dams, such as Hoover. He played the banjo and enjoyed music, he was a Mason and I guess he lived his life to the fullest. My Aunt had a road marker put up in his memory as he was the contractor that put in many of the first roads around Maysel. Jan

Thanks Velma, that is very interesting about that William Asbury in Illinois, and who knows, our Asbury's came from somewhere else before they came to W.Va., I don't know from where as yet. I do know that my William lived in Kanawha county and very near the Putnum County line, and he married Mary Ann Derrick, and I have their children. But I do not know who Williams parents and siblings were. My aunt has some old notes she wrote when she was still in high school, that said his father was Adam Asbury. The only Adam Asbury that I have found was in Putnum county, but he was too young to be William's father, and he also had a son named William, younger than mine, but I think it is possible that this might have been a brother to our William, or a cousin or something. Not able to connect them as yet. Jan
Where are these Asbury's located? Jan
New to list and would love information on this John Asbury. Parents appear to be Joseph Asbury and Mildred Montgomery. I am descended back to John through his daughter Lucetta Catherine (b 1849) m. Richard Simpson Lile.
Velma, here is what I have on Joseph Asbury's. There was a Joseph Asbury in Kanawha county, Va. in 1810 aged 26 tp 45 with a wife. the same one was still in Kanawha in 1830 now 40 to 50 years old with a female 30 to 40, and 3 sons under 10 and a girl 5 to 10 years old. This Joseph also had a brother named Isaac. In 1840 these are listed as head of household Adam (Idon't know where he went) Isaac, Joseph D. and William (this one is too old to be mine) I have a marriage record for a Joseph Asbury that married Mary Kerby on 2-12-1851 Kanawha county. That's all the Joseph's I have that would be old enough to be your's. But I will keep my eyes open when I am looking for the parents of my William Asbury for you. I think my Williams parents are one of those in Kanawha but haven't been able to find proof of it. Good Luck on yours, Jan
Thank you for replying, maybe we can get this one activated. My William Asbury was born in Virgina, someplace, about 1831, he married Mary Ann Derrick in Kanawha County, Virginia on Dec. 20, 1853. I am trying to find out who is parents were, and his siblings. I have an aunt who thought it might be Adam Asbury. I found an Adam Asbury in Putnum Country in 1870 (this is W.Va) but he was too young to be my William's father, he had a son named William though. I have the 1850 and 1870 Kanawha County census, and the 1870 Putnum county census, if anyone needs a look up let me know. Thanks Jan.
Is there anyone out there left on this list? I haven't seen any action is quite awhile. Does anyone have a William Asbury born about 1831 that married Mary Ann Derrick in their family tree? If so I would love to hear from you. Thank You, Jan
