Dear List Members, I am researching the family name of McCargo. I have them coming from England, Ireland and Scotland, by way of Canada. The name supposedly started in Galloway, Scotland around the early 12th century. I am seeking information on Peter, David, John and Alexander McCargo, around or about 1667-1873. I am also looking for a Robert McCargo who lived in Yell around 1814. Alexander was supposed to have come to the Americas from Canada(1860?). John was found to have settled in Virginia in the (1600's). Peter, i have no sufficient information on. David, applied for a land grant in Virginia in 1781. David had a brother named Stephen who served in the Revolutionary War. Any information would be greatly appreciated and i am willing to share what i have. Thank you, Velma A. McCargo
Velma, my Great Great Great Grandparents were in What would later become Dardanelle, Yell County by about 1813 and in all the records of LA/MO/AR Territory (it's was all three), I cannot find a McCargo name in the 1780-1790's census of ARk Post, or in the Reconstructed 1820 census (full state) or in the Pope County 1830 census. My GGGGrandparents were also out of Canada. They were Thomas and Elizabeth Greenwood.
