Hello, I was wondering, is Hugh McGuire, son of Preston and Elizabeth, the same Hugh McGuire, who was a Deputy Marshall? Deputy Marshall McGuire was shot in a saloon at Ft. Smith by Jerome Leeper, another deputy on the 5th of Feb, 1876. He was alive on 12 Feb 1876, but with little hopes of recovery. He was still alive on the 18th, when an article about the shooting was printed in the Arkansas Independent, pg 2, col. 1.
