Moore's Hill Cemetery (located off CR52 between Ard and Dardanelle), besides being important to me personally, is special, due in no small part to its beautiful setting atop its namesake, which is elevated a couple of hundred feet above the surrounding countryside. Unfortunately, it's remote location was favored by teenagers who drank, partied, and worst of all, committed vandalism. Several years ago there was major damage, a great deal of it irreparable, because of vandals. However, what I saw yesterday while visiting, upsets me as much as the vandalism. All of the surrounding farmland is being cleared and leveled by bulldozer. The sides of the Hill itself, up to where the cemetery begins, have been cleared. The dozer even dug away a sizable chunk of the Hill along CR52, as it appears they intend to widen the road. Not living in the area, I don't know what transpired as far as obtaining permission to do this. And yes, I do believe in individual rights. But to me, this is a travesty of all things decent and a disaster to those who appreciated the beautiful, secluded cemetery. I don't know who is doing the work. If anyone else feels as I do, perhaps we could find out and deluge them with letters of concern about the sanctity of the cemetery. Mike Earls Baytown, Texas
