When they first started forming the Masonic lodges and Woodsman Society and such, in the early Arkansas Newspapers, the original reaction of many citizens was RIGHT...YEH.....Somebodys gonna pay me $5,000 when I die, not likely, after all, we're all gonna die!!!!!!!!! Often in the obits of these Masonic and Woodsman's members, they would say that the widow would soon receive her $5,000 policy payment along with the poor little orphans left behind. If you think about it....There's a chance of Flood, Fire and Storm, even bad health, but there is NO chance on dying...that is a 100% deal for us all, sooner or later....makes those men very thoughtful of their families back then, don't you think?? $5,000 was a LOT of money in the 1870's and 1880's, etc. Faye ----- Original Message ----- From: Ron Adams <rja@genesisnet.net> To: <ARYELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 13, 2000 9:52 PM Subject: Re: [ARYELL-L] W of W on headstone > > Charlene, > > It means Woodmen of the World.
