Karen, the DROPE and DARDENNE/DARDEN folks were in JEFFERSON County, Arkansas for the greater part of early Arkansas. (1790-1860) Some were at the "Arkansas Post" in the early 1790's surviving census from that Post. I did a fairly extensive research on The Dardenne a few years back for one of their descendants. Her's married into the Shinn family of Pope County later. The DARDENNE were of Quapaw heritage and went for the most part as a group into Indian Territory, although I believe there were only 64 of them or near that who went. They were also of FRENCH blood and lived in the Jefferson/Union county areas of early Arkansas Records. There are quite a lot of marriage, birth and other records that survive on this beloved family of earliest ARKANSAS TERRITORY. The Catholic Church records that survived from down there in South Arkansas have many records of the Dardanelle/Darden, etc. (I belive I saved many of the early documents I have with the DARDENNE'S included). I know I have the Quapaw list with their family included in Indian Territory and Kansas Territory. They are intermarried with many of the earliest French familys of the Territory of Louisiania/Missouri and finally we became the Territory of Arkansas. These families were mostly of French Canadian descent, along with their beautiful Quapaw women for wives. (The Quapaw are often referred to as the most stately, tall, intelligent, people of Native American blood, much beloved by the early Spanish and French who settled Arkansas Post). I will send you the name of the lady who is a descendant of all of these very early DARDENNE'S and she found quite a lot of additional data after our initial research into this family. I will send her e-mail to your mailbox.(I hope I can locate it) maybe she is still on this list and will see your post.
