Hi Folks, I spent a few hours at the AR History Commission, searching for records pertaining to Joseph FRUEN/FRUIN of Yell Co. I was hoping to find naturalization records. So far, no luck on that. He was in Monroe Co between 1860 and 1874. The 1870 census shows him as naturalized. So, I was searching Monroe Co court records. In the searching for an obit for him, I did find the article, which Faye had copied and sent to me. The article was the notice of intent by his widow, Cordelia FRUIN, to acquire land. Then Russell Baker suggested I check the mortality schedule for 1880. Well, Joseph was not in the index. So Russell said you need to go straight to the film. I did and looked through all of Yell County. I found Joseph under what appears to be Truen. So, he is probably in the index that way. I know it is the right one, he is listed as born in England and parents born in England. He died in March of 1880 of typhoid pneumonia. It states he has been in the US for 18 years (if the little smudge is to be trusted). This would be close, anyway. The moral of the story is: Check all sources. You never know where you will find your data. If at all possible, go to the most original source. As transcribers, we all do the best that we can; but, handwriting is not always easy to read. I am writing this just because I need to say: I found something new today. Also, I thought someone else may find something here to help. Georgia Fruen Aeverman
