Hello Penny, Russellville is not in Yell County, AR. It is in Pope County and has been since that county was formed. As far as I know the only time the county lines changed was when the new county was formed and named. Here is the progression of county line and name changes. Arkansas County was the original county - established 31 Dec 1813. Pulaski County was carved from Arkansas County - 15 Dec 1818. Crawford County was carved from Pulaski County - 18 Oct 1820. Pope County was carved from Crawford county - 2 Nov 1829. Yell County was carved from Pope County - 5 Dec 1840. Hope this helps in your search. Dixie Hickey

Need help in finding where my gr-gr-grandmother, Sarah Tittle is buried. According to an obituary from the "Independent Arkansian", Sarah died in Dec. of 1879. Her funeral was conducted at the home of H. A. Williams by Elder M. D. Early of Dardanelle Baptist Church. It mentions that Sarah was a member of this church but does not list the place of burial. I've looked for her name in several Yell County Cemetery books at the Ft. Smith Library with no success.

I know that county lines were changed several times in the late 1800s. Does anyone know what the boundary of Yell county was about 1880? Did it include any part of what is now another county?
