    3. Linda The ones I've seen are pretty obvious. They are about four feet tall. They look like a tree stump with the limbs trimmed off but stubs showing. The surface texture looks like bark and that the monument is molded cement. It has a WOW circular seal at the top and a rectangular area for the inscription in the middle. Ron Adams

    1. [ARYELL-L] Woodsman's Burial Markers -What size? Style? Any photo of?
    2. Hi Yell List Members: Does anyone have information with a description of the Woodsmen grave markers or a photo of one? My Father's Dad and Granddad buried in Moss Creek Cemetery with in about 3 years of each other share the same about 4 ft tall, rather ornate 4 sided marker. Since Thomas Jefferson Hunt the Dad was dead at age 26 and his father James David Hunt 3 years later, I have been amazed at the size and quality of the marker that they share, especially when many markers of that era .. 1905 in that cemetery are "carved on rock." The discussion of the W W markers has me wondering if this could be one of them. Thanks for any responses. Linda

    3. When they first started forming the Masonic lodges and Woodsman Society and such, in the early Arkansas Newspapers, the original reaction of many citizens was RIGHT...YEH.....Somebodys gonna pay me $5,000 when I die, not likely, after all, we're all gonna die!!!!!!!!! Often in the obits of these Masonic and Woodsman's members, they would say that the widow would soon receive her $5,000 policy payment along with the poor little orphans left behind. If you think about it....There's a chance of Flood, Fire and Storm, even bad health, but there is NO chance on dying...that is a 100% deal for us all, sooner or later....makes those men very thoughtful of their families back then, don't you think?? $5,000 was a LOT of money in the 1870's and 1880's, etc. Faye ----- Original Message ----- From: Ron Adams <rja@genesisnet.net> To: <ARYELL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 13, 2000 9:52 PM Subject: Re: [ARYELL-L] W of W on headstone > > Charlene, > > It means Woodmen of the World.
