Not only did sisters marry the same man after the death of one, but sibling rivalry was as rampant in past years as now. There were cases where divorces happened and ex-in-laws married. There have also been cases where one (cuter, smaller, more personable - who knows why or how) sister actually "stole" a sister's husband during a period of stress in the marriage. This resulted in a divorce and remarriage. While it was not a common occurrance, it did happen. Don't discount the truth of a pedigree because of that happening. I know of at least one situation where a woman married, husband died, she went back home with her babies to keep house for her half-brother and ended up marrying him. Many strange things happened in times past that we today cannot understand or even picture happening to ourselves. Don't forget that most women were really completely under the dominence and dependent on the males of their families even up through the midway mark of the 20th Century. I hope this helps in interpreting your family tree. Maryann Dixon Moseby

    1. [ARYELL-L] Henry C. CAIN
    2. Homer Cain
    3. I am seeking information on the date of death and place of burial for Henry C. CAIN. Henry was born in state of Arkansas during the year of 1877 (probably in Logan County, Arkansas) and was the son of Francis Marion and Martha A. [Shaw] CAIN. He married Viola L. Hawkins in Yell County on March 14, 1899. Between the date of marriage and the taking of the 1900 Yell County Census, Henry died. In the 1900 Yell County Census, Viola was enumerated as being a widow and living with her mother in law. I would appreciate any information on this matter. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. Homer Cain

    3. Hello, I was wondering if you have any information on James McArthur who was married to my GrAunt Letha Seola Aldridge in AR, in the very early 1900s. They had a child together, Dorothy McArthur. I "think" James worked in a diner. Letha later remarried, and she and Dorothy moved to Denver, CO with her new husband. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Yell/339 Surname: Young, Head ------------------------- Yell County: I am searching for George and Mary L. CLARK's descendants to help me filled in the puzzles. I have a copy of my grandfather's sister, Lona YOUNG, who the CLARKS have taken her in to raise her. They were her guardians. In one of my papers, it said this: Belleville, Arkansas-July 24, 1914: Received from Mrs. M.H. HEAD(guardian), sum of $20.00 for board of Lona YOUNG. Signed by George Clark. In another paper, it said this: Received of Mary HEAD, guardian of Lona YOUNG, fifteen dollars as attorney fee in resisting the adoption of ward by Mary CLARK in Yell County Probate Court in January 11, 1916. Apparently the CLARKS want to adopt Lona YOUNG, but Mary F. HEAD resisted it. Lona YOUNG was born March 1907 and I would like to know when the CLARKS have gotten Lona YOUNG and how long did they keep her. Any info. is much appreciated. 1. [ARYELL-L] Hugh McGuire
    2. Laura
    3. Hello, I was wondering, is Hugh McGuire, son of Preston and Elizabeth, the same Hugh McGuire, who was a Deputy Marshall? Deputy Marshall McGuire was shot in a saloon at Ft. Smith by Jerome Leeper, another deputy on the 5th of Feb, 1876. He was alive on 12 Feb 1876, but with little hopes of recovery. He was still alive on the 18th, when an article about the shooting was printed in the Arkansas Independent, pg 2, col. 1. I do not have the entire article, but I do know that Mr Leeper gave himself up, and was tried and acquitted. Laura ===== Greetings From Sunny California! 2. yvonne henson
    3. Hi listmembers -- I need some suggestions/help with the family. I would like to know anything about the following persons. I am searching the McArthur line from GA->AL->Perry/Conway County AR. Mable McArthur's mother was Mollie Mary Ellen Harper. Her father was John Harper and his wife was Jimia Brazell. This is mostly theory. I have one census record with Mollie's name on it. I have acquired a Family group sheet for Peggy Blazer's line with some of the above names on it. I am hoping ya'll can either prove or disprove a theory I have about Mollie. Peggy Blazer's Line: John W Harper b 1830 Iowa, Jemina A Jenny Brazil b 1848 Arkansas Children: Rebecca Catherine Harper b 9/18/1868 Perry County, AR married David Jackson Vaught Missouri Emmarlion Harper b 11/24/1865 Perry County, AR married Daniel Bland Theadosha Harper b 1876 *** Mary Emma Harper b 1878 Perry County, AR *** Daniel Bland Thomas R Harper b 1861 Denton C Harper b 1887 AR married Ida ***Could the Mary Emma Harper be Mollie Mary Ellen Harper? Could Mollie's name be Mary Ellen "Mollie" Harper? Mollie was born in 1878 the same year as Mary Emma. I also think it is strange that Mary Emma and Missouri married the same man. Missouri died in 1947. I realize that men married sisters of their wives but I thought that was only when the first wife died. It does not sound reasonable to me that if Daniel and Missouri got a divorce that he would marry her sister. If you know of someone else that might give me a clue please pass this on. Thank you so very much for any help that you can give. yvonne ____________________________ Colorado Springs, Colorado reply to henson@rmi.net web page: http://www.rmi.net/~henson Names I am researching: BRENT(S), GRANT, EDMON(D)SON, HENSON, MCARTHUR ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.

    3. My Email address has changed from ratkins@myriad.net to ratkins@tca.net I posted this message earlier this evening and Mary Russell said it bounced, so I resubscribed and will try again: Would someone in Yell County please contact Marilyn Roberts. She is from the Preston McGuire family being mentioned today and she may not be on the Internet. She is a member of the Yell County Historical Society and wrote to Maurine Atkins asking if he was part of our Atkins/McGuires. We could not find any connection. She said she was not able to get back past Preston on the 1850 (I believe) census. She will be so glad to have this new info. If someone makes contact with her, would you let me know via the list, otherwise, I will mail the info to her. I think I still have her mailing address. Melanie Atkins College Station, TX

    1. [ARYELL-L] McGuires
    2. John & Rita Floyd I am also researching the McGuires from Yell Co, AR. You mentioned the sons of Thomas C. McGuire and Lucinda Price - Henry E. and James F. McGuire - and grandsons of Preston McGuire and Elizabeth __? of TN. We are actually researching the whole family, but specifically, Arinda Elizabeth (Lizzie) McGuire, dau of James Preston (Pete) McGuire and Mary Jane Brewer, granddau of Preston McGuire and Elizabeth __? Our grandmother, Lizzie McGuire, married Hugh Joshua Hames in 1898 in Danville, Yell Co, AR. What I find interesting is that their 4th child was born in Holdenville, Indian Territory, OK (now Hughes Co) 7 Jan 1905, which is where you mention Henry Ed and James F. were living a few later. Did they stay in that area? Hugh and Lizzie (McGuire) Hames settled east of Norman, Cleveland Co, OK, about 1907. A sister of Hugh Joshua Hames - Mary Sarah (Sally) Hames had married Hughlin A. Leach in 1897, but he may have died, and she married John Preston McGuire, Lizzie's brother, and they also came to Norman, Cleveland Co, OK, probably about the same time. Don't know what you have, but we show the following: Preston McGuire, b. 1813 TN, d. Bet 1860/1870, m. Elizabeth ___ b. 1814 TN. 1830 Census, they are in Robertson Co, TN, with 1 small child 1840 Census, Magazine Twp, Yell Co, AR 1850 Census, Magazine Twp, Yell Co, AR 1860 Census, Magazine Twp, Yell Co, AR 1870 & 1880 Census - Elizabeth is living with Thomas C. Lucinda Price 22 Aug 1866, Yell Co, AR, d. 4 Nov 1914, bur Dacus Cem, Dardanelle, Yell Co, AR 3) William G. McGuire, b. 1837 or 1838 TN, m. Nancy T. McGuire, b. 1841 TN 6) John F. McGuire, b. 1841 TN 7) Virginia B. or P. McGuire, b. 1845 TN 8) Sarah C. McGuire, b. 1848 AR We show that Thomas C. McGuire and Lucinda Price had the following children: 1) John Horace McGuire, b. abt 1868 AR, m. Margaret Ella Campbell 2) Henry E. McGuire, b. 1869 or 1870, AR, m. Sarah Veda Stafford (name on census &/or marriage records) 6 Dec 1893 3) William A. McGuire b. abt 1872 AR, may have died prior to the 1910 census which stated that Thomas & Lucinda had 7 chn but only 3 living. 4) James F. McGuire, b. abt 1878 AR, m. Clara M. Stafford 2 Apr 1899 in Yell Co, AR ** I do not have the other 3 names of chn - apparently that happened between 1880 and 1910 census years (I don't seem to have found the 1900 census record for them. That census is so light, I don't spend as much time on it as I should. Hope some of this helps. Would be happy to share or exchange any information we have. Sue Wilson

    3. Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit !!! I must have somehow missed John & Rita's original letter, I will have to go check the archives for it! I am also related to this family, through Virginia Polk McGuire-Barnett, daughter of Preston and Elizabeth. Virginia married my GrGrGrandfather, Silas L. Barnett, in Yell Co. They are both buried in Russell Cemetery, just outside of Havana, AR. You can check out the information I have on this family at: http://www.geocities.com/grannys_trunk/1-SLB.html Don't know if I have much more than you do, but you might wanna take a peek. 1. [ARYELL-L] Brazell surname and a cemetery question
    2. yvonne henson
    3. Hi Listmembers -- I have a couple of requests for ya'll. There is a cemetery "nine miles west of Ward". I would like to know the name and if it is online. James Norman Edmondson and Rosie Brown should be buried there, possibly side by side. I also would like some help on my HARPER line. I have in my McArthur line a marriage that I think may be the wrong names. If anyone can offer help I would really appreciate it. I have James Curtis McArthur married to Molly Mary Ellen Harper. This marriage took place about 1892 in Arkansas possibly Perry or Conway Counties. James' parents were James Sherley McArthur and Martha Elizabeth Lineburger(?). Molly's parents MAY have been John Harper and Jima Ann Brazell. I am certain of the McArthur line but the Harper line does not fit with other information. I have a family group sheet of John Harper and Jima Ann Brazell but Molly is not listed as a child. (The information at the bottom of the sheet is "Peggy Blazer's line" and "Jemina was Valentine's sister". If this person would contact me I would appreciate it.) There is a daughter listed born in the correct year but the name is wrong. Mollie was born 11/17/1878 and died 1/13/1906 complications of child birth. If anyone has any information I would really appreciate any help/suggestions. I am at a loss as to where to go next since this does not fit together. Thanks to everyone who responds to this request. yvonne ____________________________ Colorado Springs, Colorado reply to henson@rmi.net web page: http://www.rmi.net/~henson Names I am researching: BRENT(S), GRANT, EDMON(D)SON, HENSON, MCARTHUR ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.
