Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Yell/417 Surname: RALPH, FANNIE, FANNING ------------------------- I am trying to locate information on my great grandfather, WILLIAM RALPH who was married to ELIZABETH FANNIE or FANNING. They had one child, my grandfather, GROVER RALPH. It is believed that Elizabeth died during child birth and is buried in Dardanelle of Yell County. I am not sure if Elizabeth is her given name, but would appreciate any information on any female RALPH who would have died around 1888 and is buried in a cemetery in the Dardenelle area. I am not certain where Cardon Bottoms is located and if there is a cemetery there; however, there should be an infant named HUBERT RALPH buried here as well. Any information on these two would be most appreciated.
Hi Listmembers-- I just got a new lead on my Grant line. Does anyone know the following persons? They are from the Yell county area. Louis Gamble married Mattie Elizabeth Taylor (where and when?) They had 2 daughters Lura b 10/3/1890 and Lona b 12/28/1894 (where and when?) What happened to Louis? Did he die or did they get a divorce? I know Mattie Gamble married Wayne Grant in Conway County in 1903. I have check the census records from 1900 - 1920 and tracked Wayne Grant. On every census record the only child listed in Claude. If anyone has the time to pursue this for me (I am in Colorado Springs) in Yell county, I would gladly reimburse any expenses. Karen, the DROPE and DARDENNE/DARDEN folks were in JEFFERSON County, Arkansas for the greater part of early Arkansas. (1790-1860) Some were at the "Arkansas Post" in the early 1790's surviving census from that Post. I did a fairly extensive research on The Dardenne a few years back for one of their descendants. Her's married into the Shinn family of Pope County later. The DARDENNE were of Quapaw heritage and went for the most part as a group into Indian Territory, although I believe there were only 64 of them or near that who went. They were also of FRENCH blood and lived in the Jefferson/Union county areas of early Arkansas Records. There are quite a lot of marriage, birth and other records that survive on this beloved family of earliest ARKANSAS TERRITORY. The Catholic Church records that survived from down there in South Arkansas have many records of the Dardanelle/Darden, etc. (I belive I saved many of the early documents I have with the DARDENNE'S included). I know I have the Quapaw list with their family included in Indian Territory and Kansas Territory. They are intermarried with many of the earliest French familys of the Territory of Louisiania/Missouri and finally we became the Territory of Arkansas. These families were mostly of French Canadian descent, along with their beautiful Quapaw women for wives. (The Quapaw are often referred to as the most stately, tall, intelligent, people of Native American blood, much beloved by the early Spanish and French who settled Arkansas Post). I will send you the name of the lady who is a descendant of all of these very early DARDENNE'S and she found quite a lot of additional data after our initial research into this family. I will send her e-mail to your mailbox.(I hope I can locate it) maybe she is still on this list and will see your post. PULLEN Family My 2nd great grandparents were Dr. James "Jim" H. PULLEN and Eva J. Unknown. According to census records, Eva was born in Pennsylvania in 1864. Jim was born in Arkansas March 31, 1858. Their daughter Myrtle Mae was my great grandmother. She married Edgar Royal JONES. Edgar was the son of Levi B. JONES and Mary Elizabeth GRIFFITH. I have a funeral card for Jim and Eva's daughter Myrtle Mae PULLEN JONES, which shows she had at least four sisters: Nita who married Tom DANIEL (may be Danfield); Ollie who married Mr. HOWELL; and Bessie who married Mr. VAN DOVER; Marjory who married Mr. DIXON. I found on a Yell County list of cemeteries an entry for Jim & Eva in Sandlin Cemetery, which gave their birth and death dates. It also listed their infant daughter Vera. I also found on this same list Bessie, her husband M. Arch VAN DOVER; Marjory and her husband M.E. DIXON and three of their children: Melvin Ernest, Janette, and Jack. There was also an entry for Olive HOWELL and Thomas W. HOWELL and I wonder if Ollie was a nickname for Olive. Dr. Pullen owned 1/2 interest in a drug store, owned a plantation and Eva ran a boarding house in Yell County (possibly in Ola). They had a black cook named Della whose specialty was pies. Their daughters were given piano and organ lessons, taught to be fine seamstresses and good cooks. If anyone has any further information on this family, I would very much appreciate hearing from you. Any name that is not listed in the "Arkansas Death Records Index' is not on record at the Arkansas Dept of Health in Little Rock. Desmond Walls Allen took the index directly from the ARk. Dept of Health. The Records began being kept in about 1914, but, many, of the records early on were not sent in to the state. Greetings. I am still trying to figure out the mother of my Eugene M. Vinson, Carrie F. Vinson Sims, Samuel Vinson, and now Bessor (?) Vinson Mifflin. There is a Lusco E. Mifflin (I believe that is what it says) with his wife Bessor living in Yell County, Arkansas. They are on the soundex of the 1910 Census at Volume 069 Enumeration District Number 0163 and Visitation Number 0082. Try as hard as I can I cannot make out the names clearly enough. It appears to be Bessor Mifflin wife and Better Vinson Mother in Law. I have not located them in the 1920 Census records of Ark, LA, Mississippi, or Oklahoma. Also, I believe the easy way for me to do this is to get a death Certificate for Eugene M. Vinson. He died 13 Nov 1916. He is not listed on the Arkansas Death index that we have available in Independence, Missouri. Did Yell County send records to the state for that time frame? Does anyone know how to get a copy of that record? Is it at the court house there or in Little Rock? Is there a listing of Lawyers from 1910 in Yell County that shows Lusco Mifflin? And finally, is there someone in Yell County would remembers Carrie Sims that might know who her parents were?
Thank all of you for the information on my Eugene M. Vinson. I have been to Ard Cemetery before and do not understand why I never found the gravesite. I am still trying to figure out his parents. I believe I have located the Mother but I need some help. In the 1910 Census there is a "Bettie" Vinson, 54 widow 6 births 6 living from Mississippi, F Tennessee M North Carolina. She is living with her Son in law and daughter. Son in law is a lawyer. The name appears to be Luscoe Mufflin 28. Wife appears to be Bess Mufflin 19 Mississippi, F Alabama M Mississippi. I Siblings I have so far are Samuel L. Vinson (wife Effie), Carrie F. Sims (husband D. Birt), and this Bess. That is 4 of the six accounted for if I am right. Does this ring a bell with anyone? J. D. Miller mention he thought one of the siblings was deaf and dumb and one married a Walker. Thank you, Jeff Bailey Gladstone, Missouri 64119
Rev. Mark LIMBIRD celebrated his 85th birthday on Sunday, April 8, 1923. Many friends and family gathered on Saturday to help him celebrate, according to an article I just received from a Yell Co. newspaper. He died in 1928 and is buried in the Oak Grove Methodist Church Cemetery. He was a minister of the gospel for the Methodist Episcopal Church, South. His wife Mary DRAKE LIMBIRD is buried beside him. She died in 1926. After her death, there was a really nice article in the POST-DISPATCH. On the back of the article in the column called New Hope Items, the following was written about the couple: "...She and Mr. LIMBIRD visited the churches and Sunday Schools so often, they will be greatly missed. I believe they kept the Sabbath holy, a command which is broken by so many." The above article seems to suggest that they served more than one church. His granddaughter, who is still living, mentioned they served at the New Hope Methodist Church. Always searching, Pat
Pat, Is your Mark Limbird the same as Rev. Mark Limbird who married my grandparents in 1925? Do you know what church he was affiliated with? Thank you Beth
Attention: Sherry Farmer, I had a wrong address for her> You and I corresponded some time ago. I have recently found the connection to Mark LIMBIRD and Laura LIMBIRD Farmer. Mark and Mary Drake LIMBIRD were her parents. I have a list of siblings and some of the children. My husband's great grandmother was Ida Alice LIMBIRD Dean w/o Jessie, sister of Laura. I will be happy to share if you need this info. If you have it I would like to compare. Looking forward to hearing from you, Pat Dawson
I am trying to locate the Parents of as well as any siblings of Eugene Vinson September 20, 1882 in Mississippi and dies November 13, 1916 in Yell County, I think. I do not have a cemetery location for him. He is my Great Grandfather. His sister is Carrie F. Vinson who married D. Birt Sims. Carrie was born September 29, 1880 and died November 22, 1960. I have her cemetery located. Does anyone have access to obits who could look up to see if Carrie Sims' list her parents and where she was born. D. Birt Sims died 1 Jul 1935. I have him buried in Chickalah Cemetery along side his wife. Thank you. On more thing, I do not know if Mary Vinson Humphrey is related to us in anyway but the books that she and her partner have done are such a wonderful blessing to us here that I wish to thank her and I am going to claim her as part of my family anyway.
