Mary, he will have the prayers of all the Yell County List Group as well. Thanks for telling us and don't worry about us, genealogy is a hobby and passtime, and has little signifiance when facing life's true trials. We love you and therefore your hubby too. Remember while you are sitting in waiting rooms, that everyone of us is there in spirit by your side..... Hello... I found the Index below while surfing at www.google.com and wondered if anyone has a copy of this book and could do a few lookups. The Index says there are entries for Douthit, Douthitt,Dowthit (even the Dowell entry is a possibility for Douthit entries). I was wondering if someone could either tell me what they say or scan them to me . My father was born in Yell County AR 1891. During the first part of 1918 I am not sure where he was living. He had relatives somewhere in Oklahoma and family in Yell County. In May of 1918 he joined the Army to serve in WWI. I have his discharge papers and they say he served in Co. D. 53rd Pioneer Infantry . I am hoping to contact others of you who may have had a Father or Grandfather or Uncle who served in that outfit. I can't find anything written about the 53rd pioneer infantry. My father enlisted at Holdensville AR or OK ??? Thank you for all your nice letters to me about my husband's surgery. Don't you think it is a miracle of sorts , that we have over 200 people on this list who, although we have never met, still care for each other? Mary Harkey Russell bird@scrtc.com
Hi, I want everyone to know why I'm so quiet and since we are all cousins will just use the list to tell you. My husband of 47 years is facing two surgeries and my mind is not much on genealogy. He will have angioplasty with a stint put into one coronary artery next Wednesday. After that , when he recovers well enough he has to have surgery for an abdominal aortic aneurysm. We have good doctors, good hospitals, good insurance and good friends praying for us. I don't know how anyone could ask for more than that. I do expect to be a little out of my mind for the next few months so please bear with me. Mary Harkey Russell Listowner bird@scrtc.com

Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Yell/453 Surname: PREWIT, HUTCHINSON, HUTCHESON, WILSON, TATE, ROGERS, PRUETT ------------------------- My grandfather, John Riley WILSON, kept a journal of his move from Yell Co., AR to Henderson Co.,TX. He recorded a visit to Jud PREWIT near Cooper, TX in August 1913. John's mother was Harriett HUTCHINSON, niece of Charles HUTCHESON, who was married to Sarah TATE. John's wife, Minnie TATE WILSON, was the granddaughter of Mary E. TATE and Thomas S. ROGERS. Another sister of Mary E. and Sarah was Martha J.TATE, who was married to Thomas PRUETT. Is he an ancestor of Jud? These TATE women were the daughters of Jacob and Sarah R. TATE of SC.
Posted on: Yell Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Yell/450 Surname: Lacy, Meller ------------------------- I am looking for information about Tennie Meller who married Luther Lacy in Yell County on J7 July 1894. Tennie and Anna Meller were sisters.
GLOVER, MERRILL, DERMIN (or DURMAN, DEARMAN) - YELL Co. AR Hi List, I am searching for the family of CHARLES GLOVER. I've been told that he went by his initials C. W. His middle name could have been WILLIAM. His wife's name was MARTHA - maiden name "unknown". In 1885, CHARLES GLOVER was living at IRON'S CREEK (ALY), in YELL Co., AR. On a 1910, Sequoyah Co., OK census, Charles and Martha were both listed as being born in PENNSYLVANIA. My grandmother - LOU EMMA ARMINDA GLOVER - was their daughter. I knew my Grandmother Emma was born in Bloomington, Indiana, on Dec. 25, 1868. Using that info, I posted a query on the Monroe County, Indiana Rootsweb List -- A very nice person found my grandmother's family in the 1870 MONROE Co., IN Census. Charles Glover, 38 PA (Born circa 1832) Martha Glover, 36 PA (Born circa 1834) Mary C. Glover, 15 OH (Born circa 1855) Sarah E. Glover, 13 OH (Born circa 1857) Elizabeth A.(Ann) 11 OH (Born circa 1859) Margaret J. (Mollie) 04 OH (Born circa 1866) Emma A. 01 IN (Born Dec. 1868 - my grandmother) Two more children were born to Charles and Martha Glover after 1870 -- ALVA GUY GLOVER (Born: May, 1876) and JOHN GLOVER. It is not known whether these last two children were born in Indiana or Arkansas. ************* Known Information about the CHILDREN of CHARLES and MARTHA GLOVER: SARAH E. - No information MARY C. - No information ELIZABETH A. (Ann) believed to have lived in YELL Co. AR. No information on who she married or descendants. MOLLY (Margaret J.) married a man by the name of DERMIN, DERMAN, DURMAN, or DEARMAN. They had at least two sons, CURT and ELMER, and had one daughter, ELVIE (or Alvie). Molly and her family lived in BLUFFTON, YELL Co., AR. Have not been able to find any records on this family. It is believed that JOHN GLOVER married a lady by the name of DELIE (Deely, Dealy, Delia) GILLIAN. ALVIE GUY GLOVER married a lady by the name of MARY CALEDONIA (Callie) LARIMORE (or Larmore). LOU EMMA ARMINDA GLOVER (Emma A.) married DANIEL BAILEY MERRILL, on Feb. 1,1885, in DANVILLE, YELL Co. AR. Emma was 16 and Daniel was 21. Emma's father had to sign for her to get married. Father's signature was signed - C.W. GLOVER -- ADDRESS: Iron's Creek (Aly), Yell Co. AR. -- Emma and Daniel moved fromYell Co. to SEQUOYAH Co., OK, in 1894. It was through looking at 1910 census records for them that I found that both CHARLES and MARTHA GLOVER were born in PA. ******************* I have info on both my grandparents, Emma and Daniel Merrill after they moved to Sequoyah Co., OK, but no information whatsoever on the rest of the family living in Arkansas. Would anyone have marriage, land, cemetery, or census records (1880 and later), for YELL Co.? Any information available would be greatly appreciated. This is such a great place to share information -- I have access to the 1860 and 1870 POLK, Co., AR Census -- If anyone needs a look-up, I'll be glad to do it. Thanks, Wilma Floyd wlf@ipa.net

His father was Barnie Estes Baker and his mother was Bertha Lee Ferguson Baker. My father is not sure that the birth might not have been registered in Logan county (perhaps they lived very close to the county line) He tried (during a vacation to Arkansas) to search in one of Yell County courthouses back in the late 60's to locate a certificate of his birth, but was unsuccessfull. My father recently asked me to look on the web and see if I could find anything. Since you do not yet have birth or census index's on line, I would just like someone to pinpoint which courthouse we should check. This was a practice that was used in the early days to remove large trees. They chopped a ring around the tree with a axe which caused the tree to die. This was done by stripping the bark and cambium layer around the perimeter of a tree. This kills the living tissue so water etc cannot be transported to the leaves. It was a way of managing the forest through thinning of the trees and yet having them available for harvest later on. I also found out that the cutting of bark tissue of tree trunks and branches to enhance yields and fruit size of certain fruits has been practiced worldwide for centuries. Hi In reading an old letter dated August 8, 1934, my Dad wrote I have a crew on the gridling gang. It might have said girdling instead. His writing is hard to read. This was when he was in the CCC near Jasper. Can anyone out there tell me what he might have meant? Charlene Holland

Just in case someone may not know the reason for the CCC... Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), founded in 1933 by the U.S. Congress to provide work and job training for unemployed young men in conserving and developing the nation's natural resources. It was abolished in 1942.
