Also, most of the time, this line included the s on the end of the name, i.e. Moores as opposed to the name Moore. Also the first names you mentioned are not really common in the line from which my gggrandmother, Mary E. Moores descended. Thanks for checking though. Maryann Dixon Moseby

Does anyone know if Miss Elizabeth A. McMinn, and Mr. Wilson H. McMinn were the children of Samual McMinn, Sr. I have 7 children for Samual McMinn and Elizabeth J. Lyon, these came from census records. Martha, Mary, Samual T, Sarah, George, Cornelia, and William.

    1. [ARYELL-L] Does the library at Danville have old newspapers?
    2. Where you could look up old and older obits? I have been trying to find out what funeral home some of my relatives might have been taken to. Rock Creek cemetery. Where do you think they would have gone? I could not get a death certificate for Mary Catherine Ensey She died in 1952.I can't understand why the state would not know where their good citizens are buried. I tried to get one my great grandmother Rebecca Lou Scarbrough . It shows a Scarbrough buried at Rock Creek b 13 Feb 1850 d 30 Dec 1919. But nobody knows where she's buried. I am very discouraged about even sending for death records.I would like to get Oder Hood Scarbrough and Clarence H. Scarbrough and Minnie Stacy his wife but I hate to just give the Heath Dept my money. I sent a letter to the library well over 6 months asking if someone might see if they could locate obits for members of my family but no answer. Any suggestions. Linda

    3. Posted on: Yell Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Yell/479 Surname: Anthony, McMinn, Kuykendall, and others ------------------------- The McMinns in Yell county came from two different lines. I have tried to connect them, but so far no luck. Samual T. McMinn came to Yell county from Gibson County, Tennessee, but I thought it was after 1860. You have his wife as Martha Jane. I wonder if he had remarried. He married Elizabeth J. Lyon on January 23, 1843, in Gibson County, Tn. She was born in Gibson County abt. 1826. Samual T. was a son of John McMinn,b. 1790, NC, and Mary Polly Howard. John McMinn moved from Lincoln County, North Carolina before 1840, to Gibson County, Tennessee. John's father was Samuel McMinn, b. before 1755, in N.C. James R. McMinn, b.1802, in N.C., came to Yell county from Marion County, Alabama, about 1855. He had been living there a few years near his brother, Robert McMinn, who was my g.g.grandfather. James R. and Robert were sons of John A. McMinn, b.1776, N.C., and Elizabeth Jane Robinson. John's parents were Robert McMinn, Sr, b.bef 1745, in Ireland or Scotland, and Jane Kuykendall, born abt 1751. Both of these McMinn lines came from North Carolina, and probably connect, but so far I haven't been able to. If anyone else has something connecting them, I would like to know. 2. This may be a little off-topic but there are so many of us that knew Guinn or "Guinn's Store" in Havana that instead of sending to Judy, Dan, Ralph and others individually I decided to post to the list. Guinn McBride of Havana, Yell, Arkansas passed away Thursday night (Jan. 4, 2001) at St. Mary's hospital in Russellville, AR. Visitation is tonight from 6 to 8 at Cornwell Funeral Home in Danville, funeral tomorrow (Jan. 7) at 2:30 at the Baptist Church in Havana, internment at the Russell Cemetery in Belleville. The full obituary is in today's Little Rock Democrat/Gazette. There will be a complete obituary in the Yell County Record published this coming Thursday. If any one would like a copy send me a note and I will send you a copy. (My copy of The Record usually gets here by the following Monday). With Guinn's passing and the closing of McBride's Grocery Store in Havana one of the last vestiges of the Old Havana as so many of us knew is gone. Guinn will be greatly missed.
