Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Yell/10540 Surname: Yates, Rhoads, Parker, Wilson, Crawley, Holiman, Hoffman ------------------------- Alexander Peter Yates, Jr.'s father is in question. Ancestory.com says it was Andrew Jackson Yates who served in the Confederacy and who lived in Yell COunty. However, family info I have learned over the years says that his father was actually Alexander Peter Yates, Sr. a Confederate soldier from Missouri who moved his family to the Yell County area during the war. He was born in 1810 or 1811 in TN and died in Gravelly on 10/17/1884 when he was murdered by his hired hand Frank Parent. He was known as "Squire Yates". Does anyone have info on this? Who was his wife and thier ancestors? Where is he buried? Alex Jr is at Parks Ceme. in Scott County but I could not find Alex SR's. Secondly, Charles C. Crawley and one 10 yr old daughter is also buried at Parks Ceme. His wife though is not or else she does not have a headstone as their is a space bet. Chas and the girl. Any info on the Crawley line out there? Does anyone know his wife's name? All I have is Martha J. Charles and Martha are the parents of Nancy Ann Missouri Crawley who married Alexander Yates, Jr. Contact me at rglawrence_rick@yahoo.com.

    3. Posted on: Yell Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Yell/10535 Surname: Lewis, Maxey, Mills ------------------------- I have some of the names you mentioned in your query and am not sure that they are the same family group. These names are connected to my Hudspeth family in Yell County. My information is: Martha Lewis had a brother named Marshall who lived at Prescott, Arkansas. She Bill Hunley. She married second John Maxey as his second wife. He had two sons, one of whom was named Andrew. She and John Maxey had a daughter, Johnnie May, who married Irby moore and lived at Dardanelle, Arksansas. My connection to this family is that Martha's mother is Susan/Susannah Hudspeth, who is the sister of my maternal Great-Grandfather James Nathaniel Hudspeth. After her mother's death, probably in the early 1870s, James Nathaniel and his wife took Martha to raise, for some reason, and when they migrated to Texas in the late 1870s, they took Martha with them. My grandmother, Emma Ann(a) was born there in 1879 and her mother died shortly afterward. She had James Nathaniel promise to bring my grandmother and her three year old sister back to Arkansas and he did this. Martha visited my grandmother after they were grown and family members told me that she had red hair. If this information helps you in any way, I would love to hear from you. Several years ago I was visiting an aunt who lived at Russellville, Arkansas and we were talking about my grandmother's family and how little we knew of them and my aunt knew of Johnnie M ay Moore and we went to Dardanelle to see if we could find her. She was not at home but a neighbor told us that she was visiting some relative who lived on Highway 22 and we got directions from him and drove up there and spent a ccouple of hours with the two ladies. I did not make notes, I am sorry to say, and cannot remember the other lady's name. I look forward to hearing from you. Nadine

    2. Hi Folks, I spent a few hours at the AR History Commission, searching for records pertaining to Joseph FRUEN/FRUIN of Yell Co. I was hoping to find naturalization records. So far, no luck on that. He was in Monroe Co between 1860 and 1874. The 1870 census shows him as naturalized. So, I was searching Monroe Co court records. In the searching for an obit for him, I did find the article, which Faye had copied and sent to me. The article was the notice of intent by his widow, Cordelia FRUIN, to acquire land. Then Russell Baker suggested I check the mortality schedule for 1880. Well, Joseph was not in the index. So Russell said you need to go straight to the film. I did and looked through all of Yell County. I found Joseph under what appears to be Truen. So, he is probably in the index that way. I know it is the right one, he is listed as born in England and parents born in England. He died in March of 1880 of typhoid pneumonia. It states he has been in the US for 18 years (if the little smudge is to be trusted). This would be close, anyway. The moral of the story is: Check all sources. You never know where you will find your data. If at all possible, go to the most original source. As transcribers, we all do the best that we can; but, handwriting is not always easy to read. I am writing this just because I need to say: I found something new today. Also, I thought someone else may find something here to help. Georgia Fruen Aeverman
