Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Yell/10576 Surname: Weldon, Sheppard, Loyd, Davis ------------------------- On 21 May 1894 my ggrand father John W. Weldon was shot and killed near Waveland, AR. He is buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Could someone check and see if there is a copy of his obit or story of this shooting around in some old records. My ggrand mother Margaret A. Weldon died we are sure some time in 1921, also buried in Pleasant Valley. Grandma Margaret lived in Havana when she died. If someone could please find an obit on her I would be very greatful. 3. Posted on: Yell Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ar/Yell/10574 Surname: MADRON, MOSS ------------------------- They have to be the same person and the timing is also right. My Grandfather Arthur was born in 1901 and went by the MADRON name. Tobitha Caroline "Callie" MOSS said many times that Bob MADRON was the only man that she had ever really loved. This almost certainly took place in Yell Co, AR. I wonder if there would be any newspapers that would have printed the story.

Ar Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ar/Yell/10573 Surname: ------------------------- My grandmother had an uncle named Bob Madron who was shot and probably in Yell Co. His name was William Robert and he was born to John Madron and Amanda Snow and am sure he was born in Indiana. I remember my grandmother telling me of her Uncle Bob who had gotten into a fight at a picnic or something like that and during or rigt after was shot. This Bob Madron like to fight. I know also nothing else of him. According to the record that I have he was born in 1868 and died in 1904. None of the other names that you mention ring a bell with me. 1. [ARYELL-L] H. B. Hickman of Birta
    2. Seeking information about H. B. Hickman who lived in Birta. The story I have is that he went hunting and was never heard from again. The time frame is around late 1820s (I think). I have head stories of people getting lost in the "bottoms" around Birta and Ola and never been found but would like to know if any one has any particulars on this particular incident. Thanks in advance.

    3. Posted on: Yell Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Yell/10572 Surname: MADRON, MOSS, GAINES, CROCKET, WALKER, HUGHS, MCCOY, WILLIS, GREEN ------------------------- According to my Mother & Aunts: Tom CROCKET was "mean" to my G-Grandmother and they weren't married very long--they divorced. My Grandfather, Arthur Elzie GAINES was born under the name of MADRON--he did not find out he was the son of Thomas F. GAINES until he was married and had two sons of his own. My grandparents then legally changed their names from MADRON to GAINES. My mother knew her Aunt America (GAINES) WALKER--she used to visit and bring presents to her and my Aunts & Uncles. Thomas F. GAINES had a sister named Isabella who married a HUGHS; and a sister Cuba who married Porter WILLIS in Oklahoma. Thomas F. & Lottie (McCoy) GAINES had a son named Harley O. GAINES. My grandfather Arthur met & spoke with Harley after he found out that his real father was Thomas F. GAINES. My Grandfather was very ashamed of being illegitimate--he was a very religeous man. Thomas F. GAINES can be found living with his brother-in-law & sister, William H. & America WALKER in Casa Twp, Perry Co, AR in 1900. Right next door is Tobitha C. MOSS living with her father & brother. Lottie (appears to be Lutta E.) 17, & Harley O. 1 GAINES are living with her parents same location 8 residences away from the MOSS family. According to my family; William Miles MOSS sold liquor and Thomas F. GAINES used to buy from him. He was over drinking; he & Tobitha "Callie" got together and my Grandfather Arthur was the result. Supposedly, Thomas GAINES wanted to marry her but she didn't want to marry him. Supposedly, Thomas GAINES died not long afterward. Tobitha "Callie" MOSS married Bob MADRON next. After his death, she married Barnie GREEN who was mean to my grandfather--wouldn't let him live with them--choked a boiled egg out of his mouth once--Callie left him then. They divorced according to my family. Tobitha married James Monroe "Jim" "Tom" GANDY in 1909 when my Grandfather was 8. Grandpa Gandy, as I knew him, lived with my Grandparents GAINES until his death in October of 1955 in Bovina, Texas--he was legally blind when I knew him. He was a kind and gentle man.

The 1860 Yell County Census show the family pretty much intact with one additional child:  Samuel born 1852.  Isaac and Simpson are not listed. The township is listed as Upper Safone.  I do not know if this is a move or if the township name changed? The family relocated from Limestone County Alabama to Arkansas in 1850. Isaac is never found after this 1850 census entry.  Merrill Simpson arrived in Llano County, Texas by 1855. Merrill Simpson Garrett is my great grandfather I would appreciate any information on any of these family members.  I am trying to prove or disprove this presently assumed relationship of Charles, Isaac and Simpson, and identify Charles and Isaac's parents? I plan to visit Yell County two weeks from now.  Any suggestions would be appreciated. Coy Garrett garet848@aol.com
