Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Yell/10608 Surname: SPEARS ------------------------- I am looking for any information on the family of NICHOLAS (NICK) SPEARS, and ANNIE (LYNCH) SPEARS or LINDA (Maiden Name Unknown). I do know that there were four children. Their names are: WILLIAM WILEY SPEARS (WILL) born March 6, 1882, ADDIE SPEARS, IDE or IDA SPEARS, and ELBERT HARRISON (E.H.) SPEARS born March 22, 1890. I do not know the birth dates of the two girls, and I am not sure of Nick's wife's name. Some family members have told me that her name was Annie Lynch, however, Elbert's death certificate has his Mother's name listed as Linda (Maiden name unknown). I have also been told that they were from YELL COUNTY, and I have been told that there is still family living in Dardanelle. I understand that he is a Grandson of William's, by the name of Jessie Spears. William and Elbert moved to Haskell County, Oklahoma. William married Mary (Calhoun) Reynolds in Hoyt, Oklahoma on May 21, 1911 and Elbert married Mrs. Jimmie Mykle in Stigler, Oklahoma on July 14, 1914. William and Mary are deceased and both are buried in the Palestine Cemetery in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma. Elbert passed away November 1, 1954 and is buried in Sayre, Oklahoma. I understand that Nick also had a brother by the name of GEORGE SPEARS. I am trying to do a Family Tree for my Children and Grandchildren, and I seem to have hit a brick wall. If anyone knows of this family or can give me any information, please Email me at: JDWafford@aol.com

Posted on: Yell Co. Ar Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Yell/10593 Surname: SHEPHERD, HORTON, ROARK ------------------------- According to my Mother-in-law's bible the date of death agrees, but the place is Houston, TX, not Wichita Falls. As I told Regina, I do not have much more than the newspaper clipping when they died. His death notice showed his name as Robert A., but I took that to be an error. My Mother-in-law showed his name to be Robert Ray, and if you say Ray, it can easily be heard as A. All but one of the childern were girls, and the newspaper clippings have their married names. I have been in the family for 47 years, so I know a few of the given names. When Robert died in 1928, it listed his survivors as six daughter, Mrs. J.D.(Unknown)Hodgens, Fort Smith, Mrs. John T.(Dorothy Janette)Roark, Wichita Falls, TX, Miss Blanche Horton, Wichita, Mrs. John C. (Unknown) Denton and Mrs. John (Vera) Pirker, Velarie, IL, and Mrs. Terry (Lois) Hanson, Harrisburg, TX. A son, Roy R. Horton, Fort Smith and two brothers, Louis and John Horton, Henryetta, OK. YOU WILL NOTICE THAT MATTIE MAUDE IS NOT LISTED. When Mattie Maude died in 1945, her survivors were listed as husband F.F.Rayburn (she had remarried), seven sisters, (should say seven daughters) Mrs. Carl (unknown) Johnson of Los Angeles, Mrs. John (Vera) Pirker, Valier, IL, Mrs. F.H.(Polly) Baughman, Mrs. J.T. (Dorothy) Roark,, Mrs. Johnnie(Lois) Johnson, Mrs. R.M.Hepfer(I think this is Blanche, but by the time I married into the family she was married to a Walter White), Mrs. Lillie Mae Carlisle, all of Houston. One son, Robert R. Horton of Ft. Smith, AR. one sister, Mrs. Lark Eatmon of Los Angeles, one brother O.C. Shepherd of Newelton LA. All the girls, with the exception of Vera and Dorothy married more than once. I have also heard stories that several of them changed there given names. Lois was also know as Sally, but I have heard that her given name at birth was neither of these. Dorothy ( who was my mother-in-law ) said that she changed her name from Troy. She never could get her birth certificate. Were some of the records for YELL CO. lost?
