    3. Faye, I was hoping you would see my query. You are such a wealth of information on Yell County and I love to read your replies. I'll try to answer some of your questions. The census says Mary Anvilee was born in TN, her father in SC, and her mother in Ireland. Also, we know from her tombstone that she was born in Meigs County TN. We can find her with her father Enoch LADD there in 1850 and 1860 as Emaline--yes, that's worrisome but her birth years match clear to 1870 when she's listed as Anvilee. Then there's this marriage record of Miles LADD age 21 [1855] to Mary A. LADD age 23 [1854]. Think Mary fudged a bit on her age?? LADD researchers think that Mary Anvilee LADD first married Amos LADD, a son of Miles and Rachel STOW LADD. After his death, she married his youngest brother Miles LADD. Since my posting, I found Miles listed as being 5 on the 1860 census of Scott County AR, a son of Miles and Rachel STOW LADD. Mary and Miles were distant cousins--I can't figure out right now how distant. Some of the other researchers have this down, I obviously don't. So, the step-daughter is a LADD from Mary's first marriage to Amos LADD. (Although I do know of plenty of cases where the census taker wasn't too careful about the last name of the step-children.) I don't know why Miles' tombstone says Meigs County since he lived in Arkansas his whole life as far I we can figure. It must be in error, as is his birth date which is nearly identical to Mary Anvilee's anyway. Would there be newspaper reports of the deaths of Miles and Mary Anvilee in 1899?? As far as Old Amos LADD, in 1860 he is in Polk County AR. By 1870 he is in San Diego County, California, Warners Ranch District. In 1880 he is living with his son John Milton LADD and family in California. 1880 Census Place: Wilmington, Los Angeles, California Source: FHL Film 1254067 National Archives Film T9-0067 Page 357B Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace John M. LADD Son M S W 3 CA Fa: AR Mo: AR Ada LADD Dau F S W 1 CA Fa: AR Mo: AR Ida LADD Dau F S W 1 CA Fa: AR Mo: AR [More children were born after 1880] We could use some help with Amos' marriages. In 1850 he is married to Manetta b. 1823 AR, 1860 Sarah A. b. 1816 in TN, in 1870 Amos is married to Sarah b. 1834 in TX. Probably these marriages occurred in Polk Co. AR and I haven't explored that yet. In 1850, the LADDs listed in the printed census of Arkansas are Dick LAD, Crawford Co Amos, Polk Co Hester, Yell Co John, Polk Co Miles, Polk Co and one more incorrectly listed as SADD, my gggrandfather Constantine, Yell Co Although not proven by any one document, we figure Amos, John, Miles, and Constantine are brothers and the sons of Joseph LADD and Hester _____ LADD. Hester listed above is their mother. Other children are most likely William J. LADD who married Emeline BORING, Leona LADD who married Abraham STOW, Ruth M. LADD who married Johnson HALL after her sister died, Delilah LADD who married Johnson HALL, and Milton LADD who married Mary MORSE. We are still unsure about Dick LAD who is 54 b. SC and living with James ARMSTRONG. Appreciate your help Faye and welcome any other information. Would anyone possible have information to assist me? And may I add that this is becoming an exciting hobby? *laugh* Thanks for any light you may shed on this mystery person.

    3. The LADD mailing list is having a problem sorting out a Miles LADD and I'm wondering if the Yell County list can help. Many of the LADD family lived in Yell County, including my LADD ancestors. In the County Line Cemetery in Logan County, Arkansas are listed four LADD family members, all who died in 1899. In fact, Miles LADD born on 5/6/1847 in Meigs County, TN died 2/16/1899 and Mary Anvilee LADD who was also born in Meigs County, TN, 3/6/1847 died the same day 2/16/1899. Would there be any record of why Miles and Mary Anvilee died the same day?? The 1880 Census of Petit Jean, Logan, Arkansas gives the following information which is ten years off for Miles. This IS Mary Anvilee because we know she's a daughter of Enoch LADD who was born in SC and Angeline McCALL LADD who was born in Ireland. Since the birthdates of Miles and Mary on their tombstones, are so similar, is one a mistake?? We think that Miles LADD is a son of Miles LADD and Rachel STOW LADD but the 1850 census for Miles and Rachel does not show a son Miles. 2. Jim, I'm also doing some research on this family.I was married to the Mangum side.I was married to Maggie and John Mangums grandson. We are divorced now but I have two sons that are Mangums, later on they might want to know who came from where. I was wanting confirmation that Jacobs wife was a Gee.I was told that it was. Thanks for clearing that up.If you can get into any census,I know that they lived in the Dutch Creek Township in Yell County.I can't get into the 1870 census yet,but in the 1880's Jacob was living with his parents. His father has initials for his name,I cant make them out might be a G.I.he was 6o ,mothers looks like a K could be an R.she was 59,I think .Looks like he was born in Tenn.and her NY.I hate it when they just put initials on those census.I guess they didn't realize how beneficial they would be later on for people. Maggie and John are buried at Whitesboro,Ok in Leflore Co. They have two sons still living.I realize that you posted your message some time ago,if you have found out anything on Jacobs or Marys family please let me know. Regards, Loretta
