I am planning to go for a visit down to Woodruff County when I feel better and if it makes sense to go. My ancestors were missed in the 1870 census and one was likely dead before 1880 so the others may have moved although family history has it one Thompson stayed there anyway. Before I go, I need to know about tax records as I feel this is the only resource that will probably help me. This may sound really stupid but were tax records taken every year or just each census year? If so, would someone who didn't own land be on the list? If so, where would these records be found at? Thanks.

    3. There were tax records except for one year in the 1870s. Forget which. I ordered the tax rolls from the Morman Libary in Salt Lake City. My family was in the 1870 in Tennessee but in 1880 the parents are gone and the eldest son is HOH. So I checked the tax records and at least estimated the year my great grandfather died. Good luck. I would call the library there or the court house to make sure they have them. -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com [mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of andreat6777@hotmail.com Sent: Sunday, October 05, 2003 10:03 PM To: ARWOODRU-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Woodruff County taxes 1870ish range This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.
