W. Jones Family and The Jones Family Cemetery, Part 1 of 3. Dr. John H. W. Jones was born April 12, 1824 in Alabama, the son of John J. Jones and Martha (Wilburn) Jones of Virginia who died in Alabama. John J. and Martha Jones were the parents of three known children; Dr. John H. W., Booth Malone, and Edward T. Jones. Dr. John H. W. Jones married Mary C., born March 01, 1827 in Alabama. They came to Woodruff County in 1861, locating four miles east of Augusta, where they both died on the farm they had purchased. John was a doctor and was captured by the Union Army during the Civil War, but when they learned his profession, they allowed him to be released. When he died, Dr. J. H. W. Jones owned 480 acres of land about four miles east of Augusta, about 200 of which were in cultivation. Mary C. Jones died April 12, 1868 and Dr. John H. W. Jones died October 10, 1870. Both are buried in the Jones Family Cemetery, located about four miles east of Augusta on Highway 64, behind the Greenway Tractor Company. This is a great story, full of genealogy information on the Jones family, their ancestors and desendants. Some of the surnames included in this family history are; Jones, Wilburn, Jelks, Word, Fawlks, Green, Dismukes, Lewis, and Curtis. Hope you all get to read it.
