Dezzie Gill will be the guest speaker at the Tri-County Genealogical Society meeting on Sunday, June 12. Gill grew up in the Midway community north of Marvell and will talk about the Midway community as it was when he was young and will speak about the Gill family. Gill's grandfather, James Gill, was born in Alabama and was brought to Arkansas as a young boy. He was one of the former slaves interviewed through a WPA project in the 1930's. His interview has been published in Vol. 2 of the narratives, Born in Slavery: Slave Narratives from the Federal Writers' Project, 1936-1938. James Gill bought 200 acres of land in the Midway community in 1904 and family members still reside on the property. The meeting will be at 2 p.m. in the genealogy library in Marvell. Guests are welcome.
